Okay...so it's the second best oxymoron, next to 'Military

After having had the flu for the last week, I started to really think...

Do I really wanna die in this
Beer-drinkin'-rock-n-rollin'-foo-ball-watchin'-blue collar burgh???

Didn't the old player in THE FANTASTICKS get it right, then? "There are
no small actors...only small parts." ?

Brilliant! Ain't it the truth?! This one is suitable for framing! Thanks for hitting the nail on the head so concisely and brilliantly.

"So ... what's 'Romeo and Juliet' about?"

"Well, you see, there's this apothocary ...."

Sorry, couldn't resist. Great line from a great movie.

If you ask me, no.

This little bromide is so over and misused, I can't stand it. Especially
after watching a director cast his inept girlfriend over and over and
using this line to try and make the other actresses feel small for
complaining.

I hate this cliche.

No one says, "There are no small bank jobs, just small tellers."

Or, "There are no small baseball players, just small balls."

Or, "There are no small songs, just small instruments."

Anyone care to continue? I'm having fun.

Most of the tellers at my bank ARE pretty small, I think you're onto
something!

My favorite annecdotes along these lines come mostly from Peter
Ustinov (sp), long an opponent of the so-called 'method' acting
style. He recognized (rightly, I think) that there ARE small
parts; parts that just require someone to show up and say a word
or two, and that's it. While there was a long, drawn-out story
about telling a method actor about how he wanted him to deliver
his one, single line, 'as if you have a brother in Shropshire who
drinks port,' the best was probably the heart-felt exclamation to
an actor who was seriously overplaying the business of his small
role - "Don't just do something, STAND THERE!!!"

OK

There are no small cross-postings, just long drawn out tedium.

Sorry, just kidding. :)

Oh dear, did he catch you? It serves you right for wearing leather and

William,

stop whining. Pittsburgh, unlike New York, is an excellent place
to begin a professional career. Whatever you appear in will be reviewed,
for one. I know-- I used to write for the PPG, and before that I lived
in New York which is simpy death to actors who are just starting out.

What makes you think your career will jump start elsewhere? Your life
might be more interesting in a big city, but I doubt your career would
be better. I had opportunities in Pittsburgh (I'm now in Prague working on
my dissertation) I simply would not have had in a bigger city.
