"We go out in the world and take our chances/Fate is
just the weight of circumstances/That's the way that lady
luck dances/Roll the bones"
--Rush

All throughout the Wayward Son the crew were thrown
about; scores of minor injuries resulted from impacting the
hard bulkheads. In the hangar deck, a VF-1 which was being
serviced was thrown across the hold into an Alpha, seriously
damaging both craft. On the bridge, Zoner yelled as he was
thrown from his chair into the navigator's computer terminal,
suffering a laceration across his brow. ReRob and Archon
were thrown into a heap against the forward bulkhead, while
Yuri was thrown into the console in front of her, having the
wind knocked out of her. Mark was slammed into the science
station and knocked unconscious. q was thrown behind a panel
out of sight from most of the bridge. Gryphon and Kei were
thrown to the floor together, unconscious, as the blinding
light from the explosion washed across the bridge.
Off in the distance Vaughn was distracted from his study
of the asteroids by the blinding white flash. He decided
that it might be worth checking out, seeing as how it came
from the direction of the ship and all, and he set off in
that direction at a brisk pace.
ReRob untangled himself from Archon and rushed to Zoner,
as he was the most visibly injured. Blood streamed from the
gash in his forehead and pooled on the floor.
"Zoner!! Zoner!! Can you answer me? Are you ok?"
ReRob asked to get him talking.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm ok. Fuck! Watch it, that hurt! Yeah,
head wounds tend to bleed a lot. There's an emergency kit
over there, toss me some gauze so I can keep the blood out of
my eyes. Check on Gryphon and Kei, they haven't moved."
Then, to Mike, "Archon! You gonna be ok?"
"Yeah, I'm just a bit shaken."
"Great, check on Mark. I think he hit hard."
"Zoner," ReRob called from the floor, "Gryph and Kei
will be ok. They just took a hard hit."
"Good," Zoner replied as he finished bandaging himself
and leapt up to check on Yuri. "Yuri? Yuri, you ok?"
"Mmmmm--cough--yeah. I'll be ok...Zoner! You're
covered in blood! Are you ok? You should be in sickbay!
You..."
"Shhh! The blood's mine, I'll be fine. I've got to go
check up on Mark." Zoner jogged over to where Archon was
examining Mark. "How is he?"
"Hard to tell," Archon replied. ReRob came over.
"Kei and Gryph are recovering. What happened to him?"
"He got bounced around in the science station."
ReRob began examining Mark. "Looks like he hit his head
pretty hard. And...hmm...could be a couple of broken ribs."
Zoner hit the comm switch, "Sickbay?"
"Jenna here."
"You busy down there?"
"Yeah, we've got a good number of cuts and bruises.
Why?"
"Haywire is pretty messed. ReRob thinks he may have
broken some ribs."
"And probably a concussion too," ReRob called out.
"And probably a concussion," Zoner parroted.
"Damn. Ok, I'll send some guys up right away with a
stretcher. Looks like we get to try out the new sickbay and
docbots before we expected too."
"We'll be here. Zoner out." Then, to the bridge,
"Everyone back to your positions. Iczer-2 may still be
out there."
"Where's q?" Yuri asked.
"Shit! q?! q?! Where the hell are you?" Zoner called
out.
"Like ow, I'm over here," q said as he clambered out
from behind the panel.
"You ok?"
"Yeah, I'm like, fine, ya know?"
"Good, can you handle your position?"
"Like yeah."
"Great. Get me a deck by deck injury and damage
report."
"Like will do."
"Oh..." Gryphon muttered as he got to his feet and
helped Kei up. "Ker-f'n-ow."
"No kidding," Kei replied, rotating a shoulder
experimentally. "I think everything still works...you?"
"Uh..." Gryph cracked his neck. "Yeah, I'm ok." The
two of them took their stations.
"Ok, ReRob, what's it look like for engineering?"
"Everything seems to be intact. All systems report
ready."
"Cool. Gryphon, take over science. Yuri, plot us a
course to the last known position of Iczer-2. Kei, warm up
all of the weapons systems. Gryph, how's it look? Any sign
of her?"
"Scanners show three energy readings, two of roughly the
same type from the vicinity of the last reported location of
Iczer-2, and one different source approaching said location
from the direction of the asteroid belt." Gryphon punched a
couple of keys. "Of course, I could be wrong...I'm a
Veritech pilot, I don't do sensors very well."
"Yuri, take us there."
"Will do."
"Damage minor to all decks, no serious injuries other
than Mark reported. Mostly minor cuts and bruises, a few
bloody noses and the like. And a Valkyrie and an Alpha were
wrecked in the hangar bay," q reported.
"Ok. Well, we got lucky this time. But lady luck is
fickle, stay on your toes."
"Zoner, where's Mark?" Jenna asked as she entered the
bridge.
"He's over there, on the floor by the science station,"
Zoner replied half turning.
"ZONER!! What happened to you?!"
"Hit my head, don't worry about it. Just a lot of
blood, I'll come down after all of this is over. I've done
worse before."
"Well, ok, but make sure you get to sickbay ASAP," she
replied as she tended to Mark. "Yeah, looks like he broke
one rib and bruised a couple of the others. And he probably
does have a concussion."
"He going to be ok?" Yuri asked.
"He should be, sickbay is fully equipped." Then, to her
assistants, "Careful now, bring him down to the emergency
ward."
"I'll see you later Jenna," Zoner called after her.
"You'd better," she replied.

"We're approaching the energy sources now," Gryphon
called out from science.
"Put them on screen," Zoner replied.
In short order Iczer-1 and Iczer-2 appeared on the main
monitor.
"What about the third energy source?" Zoner inquired.
"Check out screen two."
Appearing now on screen two, for a limited time only,
was Vaughn.
"What the hell is he doing in space, without a suit?"
Zoner asked.
"Well, he always was a casual dresser," ReRob answered.
"That's not what I meant, but never mind anyway, it was
a stupid question."
"Kei, lay in a firing solution for Iczer-2. Yuri, hold
the Son here for now, but be prepared to move out. ReRob,
make sure everything is ok in engineering."
"Ok." Toggling his comm switch ReRob continued, "Bridge
to Engineering. You there 'Droid?"
"Umm, yeah. What do you need?"
"Just checking to make sure everything is ok."
"Ask him to make sure the fold drive is still there,"
Gryphon shouted from across the bridge.
"I heard that, yeah it's still there." From the
background there came the sounds "Truss, watch it!" "Huh?"
KLANG! "Ouch!"
"Keep him away from the fold drive, ok?" ReRob
suggested.
"Umm, ok. Android out."

Iczer-2 lay floating in space. It had taken most of her
energy to shield herself from the combined blast of the
Reflex cannon and Iczer-1. She barely had enough left to
shield herself from the vacuum which surrounded her. She had
failed in her mission. She could not face Largo after
suffering such a defeat. She must try again; the least she
could do is destroy Iczer-1.
Iczer-1 charged her, her energy blade extended. She
extended her own blade to parry the blow; she had barely
enough energy left. Iczer-1 too looked drained. The two
Iczers began to duel in space, both so exhausted that they
couldn't take advantage of the weakness of the other. The
tables began to turn against Iczer-2; despite Iczer-1's
wounds, she still had more power reserves. Iczer-2 failed to
parry a blow and suffered a gash across her abdomen. Feeling
that failure was again at hand, and having noticed the
approaching SDF-17, she turned towards Iczer-1.
"Well, dear sister, it seems that you have staved off
your inevitable defeat for now. But I will return again
someday." With that Iczer-2 teleported away.

Iczer-1 powered down her energy blade as Vaughn
approached.
"Morning," Vaughn said by way of greeting.
"Morning," Iczer-1 replied warily. "Are you some type
of Iczer?"
"Nope. I'm human and damned ashamed of it."
"Then how do you survive in space?"
"I don't know, I just ignore the vacuum I guess."
"Ignore the vacuum? You are a strange one."
"Just one? I think I'm actually a number of stranges."
"What are you doing out here?"
"I was just out for a walk, there's some neat rocks out
here."
"Just out for a walk?" Iczer-1 asked, a bit incredulous.
"Yeah, say, you look like you can use a rest. Want to
come back on board the Wayward Son?"
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt."
"Neat. Let's go."
