One more vote for the return of the Area 88 manga to the United States.
I gotta say something about the Dirty Pair. I think that claiming that
2780 worlds could be colonized in just thirty years is very unreasonable,
especially since the "terraforming" technology has only exsisted for six
years. 27 worlds, maybe. It sounds like a typo...

We care a lot about you people...We care a lot about your guns...
We care a lot about the wars we're fighting...GEE, THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN!"

Not necessarily at all. Remember, these people have technology
sufficient to make those AI Bioroids and all that other stuff. It's not
at all hard to believe that with automated setup machinery that a colony
could be set up to be productive within a couple years, as long as you had
enough people... and there are PLENTY of people. If you had the colony
machines set up as sort of modified Von Neumann machines, ones you could
direct to the next selected colony worlds, and we assume a two year time
between landing and functional launch of new Colony Machines, you could
have 2^15 colonized worlds. And that assumes you started with only ONE
Colonizer and that each world can only produce two of them. Assume it
takes 3 years; you only need to start with four colony machines to reach
4,096 colonized worlds in 30 years.

Now, it's more likely that what happened was that there were maybe
8-10 worlds colonized in 15 years, but then all the colonized worlds helped
pitch in to prepare other worlds.

HOWEVER, 2,700 worlds in 30 years WITH DIFFERENT CIVILIZATIONS
and HIGH POPULATIONS... now THAT is hard to believe.

well i don't think they said that the planets all had 5 billion people on them, you only need one person( maybe two) to be a colony.

Besides what about technology being exponential?

Well, Two friends and myself have written a very strange work of fiction
involving our college and the Dirty Pair. (As well as cameos by many others.)
It was original written for local reading, but we have decided that it can go
netwide to confuse everyone else. So we wrote a glossary to explain any injokes
involving WPI. Hopefully you will see a complete intro and the story soon.

about the wars you're fighting gee that looks like fun

Sorry, just in one of those moods.
