If you have proof, ie. the package or other demonstration of rebate and
also a copy of bad cheque or whatever, you should first send a letter to
Future Shop(if you can find a corporate office) and next to consumer
affairs, better business bureau, Toronto Sun and most Importantly Toronto
Computes and "The Computer Paper". The local rags hold a lot of power in
Toronto and will cause many shoppers to avoid those crappy "rebate offers".
Also, in your first letter to Future Shop, make it clear that you intend
to contact government offices and media(indicate which papers). If they
don't honour a written rebate offer, it's fraud. Small fraud, but still a
fraud which entices you to buy their goods. If you're pissed off, don't
let them get away with it.

I would recommend that you file a claim in "Smal Claims" court. If a
retailer entices you to buy a product by promoting the rebate they become
responsible if the manufacture does not follow through. Small claims
courts will almost always favour the consumer. It costs less than $30.00
to file and lawyers are not required. I have filed several claims against
retailers over the years and have never lost. In fact I never got to court
as the claims where settled at "pre trial".

Note: When you win you can recover your court costs.

I am in the same boat... for the USR rebate and X2 upgrade to my 33.6...
For all that would like to know Canadian customers must deal with
keating technology of Markham Ontario (they r in the phone book, have a
1-800 # and are www.keating.com)... the chap responsible for the X2
program is a real jerk off named Stuart Dyer who is great at promises
but slow to deliver...
