Sirs,

Can anyone kindly tell me how to get around the changes in 1.1.1
so I can use tempfile scumming to give equipment from one playerfile
to another? I do not use this for outright 'cheating' by the normal
definition (ie, i would not use this to make thousands of djinni
rings) but just so that what progress i make on one file can be shared
with all the others (so if one player gets a djinni ring, each player
can use it once)... i do this since, actually being a working
professional, i have very little time to do the true game way of going
through start to finish without any security and if you die it means
start all over, which id love to do if i had free time to waste, but I
do not.
Thanks very much in advance.

Kindly? Definitely not.. If you want to cheat, use an older version so you can
work around the changes, and it doesnt matter how little time you have, its
still cheating

So what if it is? It's not a multiplayer game so his cheating affects
you in no way, shape, or form.

I would agree with this if ADOM were an online RPG type of deal.
However it's just a single player game and so if I can derive some
less orthodox means of satisfaction from it which in no way harms the
more orthodox satisfaction of regular players, then while it is still
"cheating" by the technical definition, there is nothing wrong with
it...
Consider for example 2 card games, Blackjack where various people are
playing together and Solitaire where one person is playing alone
(usually to kill time). Obviously cheating in the former ought to be
avoided at all costs, however cheating in the lone game will have no
detrimental effects whatsoever, so long as you did not then go and
brag at some Solitaire convention about possessing elite skills.
Can you dispute this?

I'm not sure if it's known how you can circumvent the security measures
in 1.1.1.

well... cheating in this case doesn't affect anyone else, so i can't really
say that it's evil. but i personally think you're cheating yourself out of
satisfaction. that's your own call, but i don't feel inclined to help you
do it. (not that i could, anyway...)

though, honestly, the -manner- in which you intend to cheat -- i'm not sure
that it can be done. i've never heard of anyone being able to transfer
items to other characters. perhaps it's more a matter of nobody ever trying
to? but from what i understand, the inventories don't wind up in the same
memory space even within the same character.

It can be done very easily with temp file cheating. I messed
with it a lot in G15, I've no idea how to get around the
protection in new versions though - I haven't even tried.

You can transfer a temp level file from one game to another,
so you can, for example, give a brand new level 1 PC a copy
of Terinyo that contains whatever you like, be that artifacts,
orbs, nice intrinsic granting corpses, wishes, whatever. Any
item that you can normally aquire in the game.

Please note: Eva, I did not intend to slight you; I just don't think I've
replied to your posts as often as I replied to Rachel's, and I am a little
brain-dead right now in any case. Please accept my apologies?

I do not believe that ways to get around the blocks that Thomas put in
1.1.1 are currently known. (You can always do it in 1.0.0.)

Actually, that is cheating, by the normal definition. Being, you know,
going outside the normal play of the game and overriding what the RNG
gives you to make sure you get stuff that you want instead of stuff
that you would normally get.

Enough people, I think, have already weighed in on this--myself, I tend to
be of the view that your cheating will not screw with my enjoyment of the
game, but I feel sorry for you, 'cause winning without cheating can rock.

Have you considered save-scumming?

Maybe send her a mail, asking how she is? I did the same with Fiera about
half a year ago. (Posted her reply here.)

I'm not Kibo, really I'm not. I've been away from Usenet for a while
-- no particular reason, I just realised at one point I'd not looked
in for a little while, and hadn't got much desire to do so. Same old
threads syndrome, I think. I figured earlier on that I'd fire up my
newsreader and see if anything interesting was going on. And the third
message I came to was talking about me, which was a nice ego boost if
nothing else. I dunno whether I'm going to be sticking around or not,
but I couldn't just leave this message without replying to it. Nice to
see that you people still remember me :)

*waves* Nice to see you, even if you don't stick around. :)
