Hi !

If this is not a top secret: why did SCFA becomes "Yerf" ? And what does
"yerf" means ?

Good luck !
Shewolf Gray.

unci digs in furry history .... and finds an olde document on the
bottom of hys harddisk, from 1990 or so ....

Foxen whispers, "The basic sounds are Yerf, Yip, Yarf, Yaff, Yiff, Growf,
and Growlf..."
Foxen whispers, "The geneeral order of sounds from positive (happy, good,
greeting) through neutral to negative (mad, unhappy, no), are:"
Foxen whispers, "Yiff, yip, yerf (positive), yaff, yarf (neautral), Growf,
Growlf (negative). I'm not sure where murphle fits in, but I think it's a
sound of contentment.."
Foxen whispers, "Then the basic sound if modified by a le, then it is leff
absolute... less emphatic."
Foxen whispers, "Err. ie: yiffle is less emphatic than yiff"
Foxen whispers, "There are a couple of words that somewhat general meaning
that they have obtained, though the entire language is rather
overloaded.."
Foxen whispers, "Yerf's are generally used in greetings, though exuberant
greetings are yiffs"
Foxen whispers, "And there is one term that got defined by Vulpis. Yipp
is generally considered not polite, as it is basically a sexual
proposition."
Foxen whispers, "Foxen chortles... well, now you know.."
Foxen whispers, "Well, thats about as far as the language has been
defined.."

Egads. That foxish language post is quoting me (or my character of the
time) from _seven_ _years_ ago. From before the word Yiff was mutated
into a lewd colloquialism by certain wolves (and some foxes) of the time.

C'mon Revar, you mean you didn't know that copies of that
whisper-transcript have been floating around all this time? The first time
I saw that document, was 2 years ago. I ocasionally still bring it out
when I'm giving a history lesson to a newbie. I didn't realize that it was
_that_ old though.

unci explains "there you see that a yerf is a positive foxish
expression, like a yiff, just a bit slightly less emphatic."

unci smiles. "by the way, i like the second version of the
yerf.com logo.. should have kept the first one for historic
reference though" ;)

fuzzles!
