Windows Update kept calling me, but presented only a blank screen.
Today I had a result: to download an Important Update Q329077.
Is it safe to do this now?
TIA

Hello,
I've had the Q329077 critical patch for Java VM since Sept 18, and no problem.
My o.s. is Win XP ; but that should have no bearing, since the fix is for all who have a latter-day MS Java.
Curious as to why you ask, if it is safe? Are you still getting a "blank screen"?
Take a look at the Windows Update section here

If you have a specific current problem, pls update with more detail.
This may or may not be your situation, but it's worth mentioning. Do you recall ever installing or accepting usage of a "Netzip" utility?
If so, it does & will show your symptoms. And if so, it should be de-installed.

You should consider any other "download" accelerator to be a suspect. HTH
