Hi all,
I have a client that has both a desktop and a laptop computer. Prior to her
leaving on a business trip I transfer her WP8 address books, her work
directory with all her work files and with NS 4.79, her address books using
the windows briefcase feature. Due to server changes at Verizon we decided
to update to NS 7.

The desktop system is running windows 2000, the laptop windows 98SE. I had
written a batch file that would copy the files to the appropriate
directories and off she would go. I checked the default profile directory
location on www.hmetzger.de/pdl.html and edited the batch files. I had also
verified the location of the .mab files.

The problem is this. Once the files were copied, NS 7 on the laptop does
not recognize or pull the "new" address book files. On the windows 2000
system, the files were named abook.mab, impab-1.mab, impab-2.mab, and
impab-3.mab. On the windows 98 system the files had the actual "address
book" names, citrus.mab and commercial.mab.

Is there a difference in how the files are labeled in windows 2000 and
windows 98?? On the windows 2000 system, the address books have the same
names, citrus, commercial, etc.. This is within the NS 7 address book
program itself. Not the actual file names.

She doesn't have a permanent connection to the internet and we haven't tried
the new synch feature. My understanding is that it's only between the
netscape-based imap mail and a pc, not for applying to 2 different pc's.

Any ideas or help would be GEREATLY appreciated! Thanks for your time!

See 'Ya
Phil

I haven't used any O/S higher than Win98SE.

When I imported two Communicator address books, Family and Friends, into
7.0 they were given impab.mab and impab-1.mab file names. I closed 7.0
and renamed impab.mab to Family.mab and impab-1.mab to Friends.mab. I
then edited my profile's prefs.js file in Notepad to reflect the change.

user_pref("ldap_2.servers.Family.filename", "impab.mab"); became
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.Family.filename", "Family.mab");

user_pref("ldap_2.servers.Friends.filename", "impab-1.mab"); became
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.Friends.filename", "Friends.mab");

I experiment until I get thing working the way I want.

Backup files before editing them.

Sometimes, a computer needs to be restarted, or shut down and restarted,
before 7.0 changes take effect.
