I've researched this issue in several newsgroups and haven't been able to
find a solution.

I have two machines that are on a LAN using a Linksys 4-port router-switch,
W2K Pro, and WinXP Pro. The router has DHCP enabled to assign two local IP
addresses to the machines on the LAN. I use the Linksys Router to share the
AT&T Broadband connection here at home. The two machines can ping each
other successfully, indicating that there is a successful connection between
the two.

The W2K machine has IP address: 192.168.1.100
The WinXP machine has IP address: 192.168.1.101

However, I cannot establish a connection via a simple, peer-to-peer Windows
network. I have the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
service enabled on both computers. Both machines have the same workgroup
name. I tried installing the NetBUEI protocol on both machines, enabling
NETBIOS over TCP/IP and none of these resulted in any connection. I have
shared resources on both machines (shared folders and printers), however,
when I go to "My Network Places", the only thing that shows up is the local
machine, and not the other computers. And when I try to connect with
\\machineName\sharedResource in the command prompt, it can't even find the
other machine.

Is there anything I'm missing here in my setup? I've followed the Windows
documentation for 2K and for XP, but with no success. Below are all the
network settings for both machines. Thanks in advance!

Have you added accounts to each machine using "user names" from the
other machine?
