I'm looking for some sand drills.

I know thousands of drills to do indoors,
but I need some drills to work on the
two person sand game.

I'm currently training with a friend of
mine who is a AAA sand player.
We have available a private sand court
and 30-something balls...

Post or e-mail (thanks).

This game was popular at Muscle (Santa Monica) beach last summer with
the guys on the AAA circuit. Brad Barber (of the famous Barber family)
says he invented it, so I must believe him. He calls it Vollis because
it is a combination of volleybal and tennis.

Play on a full court, only 1 hit allowed. Sounds really dumb but
after trying it a couple of times you realize how much it makes
you hone your skills, every shot has to be placed accuratly,
no easy sets to smash, and you cover the whole court.

It became more popular than the traditional 1 on 1 that
guys used to play, primarily because it is such a good
conditioning exercise.

.dtk It says little, does less, means nothing.

Tom,

I see the pros warming up with a game similar to tennis. They hit each ball
ovr in one, playing the whole court. It is a nasty looking game, but they

seem to like it. I presume it works on defense of those "ungettable" balls.

I also see a player standing on one of those 100gal drums hitting balls at
the digger on the other side of the net.

I have always liked the moving and passing drills. Start in one position,
run to another to pass the ball.

Another is having one pair of partners (jump) serving and the other
passing. I saw the guys at Marine Ave. in Manhattan Beach do this for an
hour, probably 100+ serves.

Find the weakness in your game and work on that.

Good luck,

the may 94 vb monthly has KK/KS weekly workout article in it. it doesn't get
real specific, but it generally states what they do day to day...

One problem I seem to have in making the transition to outdoor VB is allowing
myself to "beach dig". I played 4 years college VB, and my brain stem
apparently is now wired to prevent me from overhead (and open-handed) digs.
In order to overcome this, my partner and I do a digging drill where we stand
approx. 12-15 feet apart from each other. It's like pepper, except at least
1/2 of the shots are intentionally hit above the waist. The digger makes
a beach dig TO HIMSELF, and then hits the next shot back.
