I'm looking at the salomon tr mg elite and the k2 mod8 skates. Which
is better? I can get the salomon skates cheaper.

I have both. It's a tough call. The TR Mg Elite offers truly incredible
comfort, I think. The boot fits like a glove and the speed lacing
system is the best I've seen. On the downside, I find them a little
bulky and don't like the twinmetal frame all that much: My left skate
suffers from the rattling rivet problem, and when all the wheels are
removed, you notice how flimsy the bottom, aluminium part of the frame,
really is. Notwithstanding the rivet problem, which is definitely a
glitch that I hope Salomon will fix for me, the skates offer a very
smooth ride that's perfect for long distance. The K2 Mod 8, which I
haven't used as much so far as the Salomons, appears to offer quite a
bit more control. The frame is excellent, and its stifness makes you
feel that you're more connected to the surface that with the Salomons.
While the boot is well designed overall, they don't fit nearly as well
as the Mg Elites. The lacing system is inept: No amount of pulling on
the laces makes you feel that the skates fit snugly around your foot,
and back-to-front mobility isn't as good as with the Salomons (but keep
in mind that the european version of the Mod 8 appears to use a
high-cut boot rather the the low/mid cuff found in the US). The skates
feel - and probably are - lighter than the Salomons, despite the
latter's microbearings. My impression is that the Mod 8s will make me
suffer over long distances, but then, fit is a very subjective thing
and your experience might not be the same as mine....

Overall, I'd love to have the Salomon boots equipped with the Mod 8
frames!

Check out the Rollerblade Core Carbons as well...I know Rollerblade's
offereings weren't very good, (ok they sucked), the in past, but I am
quite happy with my pair. They don't have quick lacing, they don't
have as much front back movement. But, they are very comfortable, and
they hold your feet very well thanks to the power strap. They also
have the best weight to stiffness ratio frame I have ever seen. The
Carbon Fibre chassis is just amazing. It is thin but very light and
yet it still is very stiff. If also seems to absorb vibrations quite
well...although that may be in the boot design.

That shouldn't be hard to do. You have both skates and I thought that both
have standard frame mountings.

Well, actually, I checked that, but perhaps not thoroughly enough. At
first sight, it looked like the Mg Elites had their bolts spaced
farther apart from each other than the Mod 8s, but I'll check again! It
would be great!!
