Hello All:

computer: 1.8Ghz XP Home,

For weeks now i've been trying to figure out how to get my new sony
DCR TRV 530
camcorder to work with some sort of video conferencing software like
netmeeting. The camcorder has a i-link (Firewire) and i installed a
firewire board in the computer.
MS Movie Maker finds the video input from the sony (through firewire)
and can record fine. It even lists under capture device: Sony DV...
Why cant Netmeeting find it (the sony device) also ?
I also tried webcam32(demo) and it also was NOT able to find the sony
device.
In each of these a "WDM ..device" was listed but the screen was black
(not blank).
Also AMCAP was also able to see the output from the camcorder.
Basically i am trying to avoid the purchase of a USB webcam or a video
capture card that will cost a few hundred.

Can someone please provide a link or explain to me what Vfw or WDM has
to do with this problem. or provide a solution!
Thanks for any help you can provide....

sincerely,
sp

ps. i want to avoid the "softcam" type solution that has been posted
on other threads.

I have got a Sony DCR TRV725E Dig8 with ieee1394 firewire. And a ATI Rage
Fury Pro vith analog video input, XP Pro (Danish)

Pinnacle works fine. Video Maker works fine (just have to change from NTSC
to PAL every time its rebooted - (a bug? - never mind i will live with this
problem :o) ).

Question 1: MS Messenger sees my Sony DV but when selected through the
"audio tunning wizzard" it says the camera doesn't work or is used by
another program??? (IEEE1394 + Analog (i have installed the hotfix Q310507
that should enable support for DV/Firewire/analog TV devices and my
messenger version is 4.6.0076).

Question 2: Does 4.6.0076 include Q310507 ?

Question 3: Also IEEE/Analog video doesn't work in Netmeeting XP ? (it
worked fine in win98 with my ATI Theater analog video input though) - As i
understand NM doesn't support firewire or WDM but only Vfw - isn't vfw
supported in XP??? or what could be the problem...

Thank YOU JH OLSON that worked beautifully.
I cant believe there is a program like trackercam out there.
(this is going to sound like a fake product plug but i dont care)
Not only does netmeeting work but this software also allows people to
publish camera output directly to web. I didnt figure out all the
aspects of the program but not only could more than one person check
out the webcam but they had access to "IM" me also (through the
browser).
What perplexs me is when trackercam was running and then when i turned
on netmeeting, netmeeting asked me which camera i wanted to use for
the video input (sony dv was listed at that point). when trackercam is
off it doesnt do that. and ofcourse even though i chose the sony dv
device, it would choose the trackercam output. why doesnt netmeeting
just go to the sony dv device on its own (why doesnt it have the sony
device listed under video..source options)?
To think, i was going to give up and buy an analog capture card....

JESPER:

my msn messenger also shows the sony dv device in audio testing. the
video and audio did come through the sony digital8 camcorder i have. i
did the update but did not notice to see if the sony device was listed
prior to the update.
my MS messenger after update is 4.6.0076 , dont know what it was prior
to that.
analog video does work for netmeeting at my work computer, but we have
this really expensive capture cards and various tons of other
software, firewire ports etc. in that machine.
it might just be your card. not sure though.

thanks again... i will post again if there are any other solutions
future newsgroup searchers can use...
