hi. i have an 89 Ford Probe and my digital dash just died. i got a
used one but it has about 100K miles on it while the original was at 40K.

if anyone here knows how to roll this thing back i would be happy to discuss
possible arrangements.

thanx,

Because the Feds don't want you doing this on a regular basis. You might
not be able to. When BMW came out with its digital odometers in the 7
series you could reset the odometer. But, it required a lot of legal
paperwork be filled out before you could. Even then it required sending
it to BMW if I recall correctly. We never did it, I just remember the
bulletin we go on the subject.

Since most dealerships are run by highly incompetent morons, they might
tell you it can't be done when it can be done. I suggest you have a shop
do it and note to the DMV the odometer was changed. They will note on a
sticker in the door jamb of the changes made. That should keep future
buyers happy. Meanwhile you can find out from Ford if you can "roll
back" the odometer.

If you still have the original dash, you might try swapping the odometer memory module
into the replacement dash.

The odometer memory module on my 84 Mark VII failed a few years ago. The procedure at
the time was to exchange the old part for a reprogrammed replacement. The replacement
part turns on a little telltale next to the odometer display indicating that the part
has been replaced. As I recall, the price was around $80-$100. Since you have a good part
to exchange, the price might be less.
