ni totte vs. ni taishite

Can anyone help me fathom the difference between "ni totte" and "ni
taishite." So far the best I've come up with is that "ni totte" most
neatly translates as "for" and "ni taishite" is analogous
analogous to "vis-a-vis.'

I can't promise that this will make any sense, but I'll give it a shot.
"ni totte" is like "to" or "for" or "from X's point of view."

Boku ni totte eigo wa taihen muzukashii.
--- For me (or "to me") English is very difficult.

Americajin ni totte sashimi wa totemo taberarenai.
--- For Americans, ("from an American's point of view")
raw fish is hard to eat. ("raw fish is very uneatable")

"ni taishite" means either "opposed to", "compared with", or "concerning".

Nihongo ni taishite, eigo wa muzukashii.
--- Compared to Japanese, English is difficult.

Yoshitsune no wazuka na mikata ni taishite, teki wa hijou ni oukatta.
--- Compared to Yoshitsune's few allies, the enemy was extremely
numerous.

PKO houan ni taishite, Miyazawa Shushou wa kou katatta.
--- PM Miyazawa said the following concerning the PKO ammendment.

I forgot to mention that "ni taishite" is also used in technical-type
settings to indicate the object of an operation.

"C to Y ni taishite hokan o kakemasu."
--- To perform interpolation on Y and C.
