All,

I have just set up an on-line petition in support of getting Survivor 4
to air on Channel 9 in Australia. For those who may still be unaware,
Channel 9 has announced it will not air Survivor 4, as that would
require airing it in a time-frame overlapping with Australian Survivor.
For some reason, they consider that to be a bad idea.

I also encourage those viewers of Survivor who are not in Australia and
will not be deprived of viewing Survivor 4, but support our cause, to
also sign the petition. I have nominated such people as eligible
signatories.

Visit the following URL to sign it:
http://www.petitiononline.com/s4_on_9/petition.html

Below is the petition statement:

-----
To: The Programming Department, Channel 9 Network Australia

The decision by Channel 9 not to air the fourth series of "Survivor" (S4)
is an unwelcome one. To persist with such a programmming decision will
result in the alienation of many fans of the three previous series, and
will reflect badly upon your network. We do not accept "a clash with the
first Australian version" as a valid reason for not airing S4. All
previous series of Survivor have maintained consistently good ratings, a
trend which will continue with S4 if aired. Your viewers are also
intelligent enough to be able to follow both S4 and the Australian
version in spite of them airing concurrently.

We ask that you air S4 as you have for the previous series, maintaining a
delay of less than one week from the original airing date in the United
States. We will reward such a display of common sense with immense favour
and loyal viewing of S4 and all future series for the entire duration of
each.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
-----

I did not work into the statement above a boycott of Australian Survivor
by Australian viewers, however I have made it possible for you to enter
some comments when signing the petition, and I would encourage you to
also state that you will boycott Australian Survivor if you genuinely
share my sentiments.

Let's give it our best effort! I would also suggest writing letters (of
the snail-mail variety, as they carry more weight with the addressee) to
Channel 9, as well as to the television supplements in major Australian
newspapers.

Regards,
Al Clark.

When you say "Australian Survivor," are you talking about the Survivor
2 that was filmed in the U.S? I ask this because there was a United
Kingdom version of Survivor that was filmed on Pulau Tiga. Thanks.

there is going to be a version of survivor in Australia filmed in Australia
to be aired on channel 9 and not put on S4 on our channels.

the US?

We did not get it, but it was posted on IRC and in
alt.binaries.nultimedia. I was able to download each episode, convert
to mpeg, and burn a vcd to watch in my DVD player. I avoided learning
what happened until after I viewed each episode. I am hoping somebody
will cap and post the Australian version.

which is fair enough i reckon. Why should they bother showing S4 when they've
got their own Survivor show to televise?

This just goes to show how short a lifespan these types of tv shows have. They
have to rush everything out to air before everyone finds out the ending - plus
there are never an repeats ofthe shows later because everyone knows the ending -
this rarely is a problem for dramas. I think that TV execs will very quickly
realise just how expensive these show actually are.

We like the US Survivor - I can predict with a great certainty, that
the "Australian version" will be absolute CRAP. PLUS we've already
done the who Australian thing... I want to see the Marquesas version -
no food!! Beautiful surroundings!!

Wimbledon is shown on a delayed telecast here in Perth.

Optus Vision carries ESPN, but the problem is Optus Vision isn't
available in Western Australia!

Nope, Foxtel holds the contract for regional Western Australia.
Austar has the contract for the rest of regional Australia.

You could - and seeing as it's not Star Trek - they MIGHT listen...
you have to get a lot of people saying they won't watch the Australian
survivor if they don't put the Marquesas Survivor on when the US
starts showing it - not later in the year.
