happen to learning how to play guitar, bass, drums, piano, and other
instruments that require learning! What happened to writing music and lyrics
that make sense! Rock and Roll, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, Jazz, Alternative,
and Classical music, is the only true music out there. Rap can be prejudist
against whites, laws, promotes violence, drugs, and especially GANGS!!!
Also some of these motherfuckers talk about rock as being the devils music,
and they say they respect women...when in there damn videos they degrate women
and show their big buts...(Baby got back-what ever his motherfucking name is).
Rap is stupid, and most people who do this, go in the business for easy money.
No offence to blacks, I'm not prejudice, but just about every black person out
there can rap! I'm sure you'll agree! I know this one black guy who is in my
friends band and he has tallent, he plays bass in this trush group, and yes
there are black people, Hispanics, Indians that do listen to rock, metal,
alternative music aout there and are in bands. Rock and metal is a universal
music! Rap artists like Ice-Cube promote racism, like his new video, "Stay
true to the game!"...in this video he takes this black guy away from his white
girlfriend, and says that a black person must stick with his one kind!!! He
should be executed...we don't need rap artists like him, in this day and age we
are trying to promote equallity, these type of groups don't help!!! Some of
these assholes talk about gangs and killing eachother, what the fuck is that
all about, is that a positive message! I don't want to here about Heavy Metal
being Satans music because it isn't. Just because you see the word blood and
evil in the lyrics, it don't meen it's satanic, if you weren't so ignorant you
would read the lyrics and figure out the damn meening, the lyrics are like
poetry...you got to read them carefully and if you are open-minded you would

Hmmm...are you talking about rap or about heavy metal?
If I were you, I'd take your own advice and give rap a try. Of course there
is some rap that is stupid and racist or sexist. But there is also rap that
is intelligent and politically-minded. Get the album "It Takes a Nation of
Millions" by Public Enemy, listen to it a few times, read the lyrics and
then say what you will. But generalizing and saying "all rap sucks" because
of a few songs and what they say in the media is like saying "all young
black males are drug dealers" because of a few young black males and what they
say in the media..

People are entitled to their own opinions on rap music, and it's nice
to hear a message dissing rap written by someone who knows what they're
talking about, unlike "Rap sucks balls." Although I don't agree with
many of the opinions, she obviously knows enough about it to judge it.
I respect the feelings of people who know what they're talkin' about,
but as it was thouroughly discussed, many rap bands DO use and play
their own instruments. Not to mention that just because someone makes a
rap album that doesn't show a lot of musical ability, doesn't mean that
they don't have musical talent. I am an MC myself, and I write
classical, rock, and jazz music, and from what others say, it's damn
good. Although she was fairly well informed about hip-hop, she really
shouldn't stereotype rap artists and rap music.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this idiotic post by this
obviously ignorant girl. You claim that Sir Mix A Lot denegrates women in his
video... but it's not anything like the fine treatment women recieve in a Van
Halen video. You also claim that ANY Black person can rap. You come off
sounding more racist than the people you claim to have beef against. As a
lyricist (and a pretty dope one), I KNOW that ANY BODY CAN'T DO WHAT A RAP
ARTIST does. That's just like saying that any white boy can crunch chords on
his electric guitar. You also say that rap causes violence. I'm quite sure
that RAP causes about as much violence as HEAVY METAL does SUICIDES. You have
proven that ignorance crosses all racial and gender lines by posting such non-
sense. For you to claim that rap isn't music is another stroke of sheer stu-
pidity, because I would like to see anyone copy the sonic collages that Hank
Shocklee creates in a Public Enemy song. Also, how can you say that hip-hop-
pers think that Rock is Devil Music when so many hip hop acts WORK WITH ROCK
MUSICIANS? I guess that Metal Church, Anthrax, Living Colour and others have
sold their souls for working with hip hop artists. You have a point when you
mentioned that some artists call white people "devils", but were you outraged
when Axl Rose blasted "niggers" in HIS SONG? Or did you sit back and enjoy it?
By placing ALL rap in one category and saying that it sucks is as bad as saying
all METAL, JAZZ, (fill in the blank), sucks as well. The next time you decide

that as a warning. I wanted to break down her message and reply to every part

Do you think that what rappers do take no learning? If so you have a lot to
learn. Could you put together hip hop music that sounds good? Could you
handle all the complexity of putting together samples that not only do not
sound like the original, but that may contain up to 5, 6 or even 20 different
samples? Could you automatically stand in front of two turntables and keep the
beat going smoothly for 5 minutes when the beat on the record is only 1 minute?
Do you even know how that is done? I doubt that you could do any of this. It
all takes learning and a lot of practice. I am still learning myself. A lot of
your message is full of assumptions. Instead of making wild statements off the
top of your head, why not take the time and *see* how it is done?

Why don't you listen to some rap besides NWA, etc.? Try Boogie Down
Productions, Public Enemy, or Eric B. & Rakim, just to name a few? When Rakim
rhymes about the Gulf War, you are saying that makes no sense? When The Red
Hot Chili Peppers talk about certain things on, "Extra Special Secret Song," or
a name similar to that, they are making little sense *and* perhaps degrade
women, since they are talking about girls' vaginas (Getting some p***y, to be
straight forward), after all. Don't forget, it was the Who who said, "She's a
bitch, She's a whore," and talked about a, "Pinball Wizard," just to impress a
writer who liked pinball. Nonsense talk and women degradation from a Rock band

Rock can be prejusdiced too, or was it not Guns 'N Roses who used the word,
'nigger,' in their song? As for law, was it not laws of the 60's that helped
spark what is today called Classic Rock and such noteworth events as Woodstock?
Drugs... lets see... Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison... didn't they all use drugs and
isn't it a fact that the last two died from them? Didn't all three of them use
them before, during and/or after concerts, along with their many fans? And, I
know those concerts were not violent free. Just look at the clips of cops
pulling fans from the audience. I personally don't see rap as promoting gangs,
but I can see why you would....

Public Enemy respects women in their songs. The Jungle Brothers even wrote a
song, "Black Woman," and ode to black women in the world, who happen to be one
of the worlds worst treated groups. Videos are not always the artists idea,
but their are a lot of rappers who do degrade women, granted, but I think I
mentioned how other musical forms do too in an earlier statement. As for
Mix-A-Lot/Baby Got Back? It may be offensive in some ways to women, but get
his overall meaning: he is battling this racist society that says in order to
be a beautiful woman, you have to look like a white woman. The traditional
black woman features like big hips, big butt, are usually considered as fat or
bad shape. Black guys don't think that and I'm sure a lot of white ones don't
either. That's Amerikkka's view of beauty, but at least not the blacks
peoples, and that's his point.

Alot of people do go into rap for easy money, but a lot of people go into Top
40 for the same reason. Don't just single out rap. And trust me, not every
black person can rap. Any person can rap, but how many can do it well? We are
not talking about the Hammers, but instead the BDP's, The Rakims, The Q-Tips,
The Grand Puba's, The King Suns, The Kool Keiths, etc. Ever hear any of them?
If not, please do, and then write me back and tell me any black person can rap.

To say rock and metal is universal is like saying rap is universal among black
people. I know plenty of blacks that do not like rap music simply because it
does not appeal to them. The same can be said about rock and metal. I hate
metal completely, and I have attempted to listen to groups I was told that were
metal like Iron Maiden, MegaDeath, etc... You may be right. Ice Cube may be
promoting racism, but that's how a lot of blacks feel as do their white
counterparts. But tell me though, in all honesty, would you date a black man
(I am, from certain parts of you letter, assuming you are white)? Or, perhaps
you have. I am just curious.

Saying heavy metal is satanic music is a assumption, just like the one you have
made about rap. I do believe some of it is satanic, but I would gather this is
rare. Wasn't Black Sabbath one of these rarities? Your arguements are very
