The hits I got from Groups.Google suggests there's a lot of people
experiencing that "Forget View Preferences" problem so I thought I'd add my
few cents worth..

There's the delete ShellNoRoam\BagMRU and ShellNoRoam\Bags solution to
restart on a fresh MRU list but I found that this solution only lasts as
long as it takes for the 400 slot MRU list (default for XP) to fill up
again. (Which was about 3 weeks for me)

A complement solution I found is to increase the number of slots used. To
do this:

Under the Registry Key
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\]

Create a new DWORD Value called "BagMRU Size" and set it to whatever number
of slots you want. Remember to select the Base "decimal" when changing the
value because it's easy to forget and enter it as hexadecimal thus getting
an actual number that's somewhat bigger.

I called it a "complement solution" because I think it's best to delete
both:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU\]
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags\]

as well when making the change. Just to start over in a "clean" state. I
find there's no need to restart after making these changes but all explorer
windows should be closed before making any change. (can't help for Desktop)
Maybe export backups before deleting but it's pretty harmless as long as you
don't delete the wrong reg path. --could be more harmful importing
out-synced backups in this case.

That "BagMRU Size" thing is an undocumented feature (undocumented because I
couldn't find documentation on it) and I'm no MS developer either so this
"solution" *may* break in the next service pack or even tomorrow (or break
your system entirely as soon as you do it)*. Use at your own risk. I've
got mine set to 1024 slots and I tested by creating lots of useless folders.
Your mileage may vary. Remember that every computer variable has a bound
limit and explorer's limit may be smaller than what RegEdit allows you to
enter. 1024 slots may work but 65536 slots might not.

(* When I first created 'BagMRU Size', I didn't change the value from 0 and
this caused explorer to crash n' reopen after a string of error dialogs.
There wasn't any (noticeable) damage though, I just fixed the value and
everything was a-ok.)

One other thing.. A question of my own. Does anyone (..still reading) know
the data format the numbers in BagMRU use? I'm looking for a program that
deletes Bag entries for no longer existent directories but want to write it
myself if I can't find one. Thanks.

Regards.
