sound for alpha

Hi,
Since music is better than the fan noise, I am planning to buy a
PCI sound adapter for one of our alpha machines.
What should I buy ??

I've played around with the SBLive cards, they work fairly well (with Alsa
that is) but make sure they are on PCI bus number 1. They produced a
horrible noise on PCI bus 2 (though we've since sent a UP2000 to Alsa to
get them to fix it). We've also tested the SB16 PCI and Ensoniq AudioPCI
and they seem to work well.

in the kernel, and the one from opensource.creative.com). There
are a few people with alpha's on their list (me included).
I didn't notice any problems with where the card was (this was a
ruffian board, and the card was in a 32bit slot)

SBLive value works extremely well with open source drivers at
http://opensource.creative.com/
I could not get this card to work with the alsa drivers. However,
hopefully that will change because the alsa driver for SBLive is based
on this driver. The SBLive driver is upgraded frequently. Another
bonus is the driver will find the card in any PCI bus.
I did not one thing strange though, using mgp123 there is distortion,
but with xmms there is absolutely no distortion.

I am wondering if somebody was able to run Wine (windows emulator) through
the Linux/Intel ELF emulator (CONFIG_BINFMT_EM86=Y), or install Win31
starting from a "dosemu" filesystem.

They need kernel support, which is likely not implemented for
Alpha. Would be very cool, though :)
