Amazing the stuff you run into on the net; looking for another name on
your list, I ran into this little gem of psychotic medical advice at:

http://www.ncdot.org/news/dailyclips/2001/01_07/2001-07-03nn.html

In his June 22 column about one of many
environmental problems, global warming,
Robert Samuelson asked for help. He
wrote, "Someone who defies conventional
wisdom needs to explain his view well
enough to bring public opinion to his side."
I don't know if I can do that, but I do
know that my views defy conventional
wisdom.

First, it's important to realize that war can
affect the environment as much as any
other activity. The fact that war has been
recurring since the beginning of history
shows that politicians are unable to learn
how to live in peace. The only idea we
haven't tried yet is the correct one: to
minimize government everywhere.

A clarification: "minimize" doesn't mean
"eliminate." It means to reduce
government until government no longer
disturbs the peace.

Second, since all of the initiatives
commonly suggested for dealing with
global warming and the other
environmental problems (including the
Kyoto protocol) involve governmental
control, those initiatives must be
discarded. This leaves only one admittedly
terrible, but unavoidable conclusion: We
must control population by voluntarily
stopping the practice of immunization.

A clarification: Stopping immunization
doesn't mean we have to stop all medical
care. The choice is not all or nothing. The
choice is to control population or be
unable to avoid environmental disaster.

From the third paragraph, that name could not _possibly_ be a
coincidence. Makes me ashamed of the town containing my alma mater.
Let's don't distribute cheap/free birth control, that might be something
that (*horrors*) a _government_ might do. Let's bring back diptheria,
smallpox, pertussis, rubella, measles, cholera, and all the rest of
nature's battered but not beaten panoply, to avoid admitting that
governments are a useful concept. Notice that the Kyoto protocol is
bad, not because cutting CO2 emissions is a bad idea, but merely because
it is a _governmental_ idea. We are talking profoundly brain-damaged
thinking processes here, I'm guessing he got to AA too late. One can see
how this kind of monstrously obsessive thinking could lead to
anagramming as a hobby, I suppose.

I found this little septic bit of anti-government paranoid thought

awful _governments_ be involved in the spread of birth control or the
amelioration of environmental degradation, let's ban immunization and
let the little unwanted sprogs die in grotesque pain and misery,
instead, then abandon the Kyoto protocol so we can hot up the atmosphere

Does not and never has existed.

Even though I've worked with computers for over 30 years, bought my
first microprocessor-based single board computer in 1976 (a KIM-1,
date code on the RAM chips is 1776), collect old computers (one dating
to 1974), and have completed nearly 15,300 SETI@home work units, I've
never set up a personal web page.

I'm more interested in how they hook together than what runs on them.

I finally had to break down and look it up online, my _Annotated Alice_
is lost to the gender wars, and I couldn't remember which creature
(toves) Humpty Dumpty had described so.

I ran into www.jabberwocky.com, and things went straight downhill from
there. I chatted up the Latin student sitting next to me with Latin
translations of Jabberwocky, I read about Robert Scott translating
Jabberwocky into German and then claiming that Carroll had translated
the German version into English, I read commentaries on commentaries on
commentaries.

Probably an hour later, I came up for air.

Nice to see you having something to say again, Paul.

No worries, I'm pretty sure Huck's siggie is still older than yours.

Yeah, his brother kindly posted a short note here a few months ago, I
don't have better access than that to my files to tighten down the date.

His brother indicated in private email to me that the death was still
very hard to discuss, thus the (quite possibly unfounded) speculation
above.

Nobody seems to know. I have not ruled out the possibility that

That's not news, Julian. I have known that since 1988. That's why I
