I have (like a lot of other people) a multiuser VB6 app using Access 2k
(same problem under 97) that corrupts the Access Database for no
apparent reason. My boss is anxious so I have :

1) Upgraded to latest service packs of VB (SP5 though SP3 had the same problem)
2) Replaced all network hardware (switch and cards, even tried wireless)
3) Completely recoded to use local databases so no server based database is held open for more that a second at most.
4) Completely checked that every recordset object is closed and set to nothing when done.

And none of this has helped. I often compact to keep the db size down
and that doesn't work. Repairing the db is a short term band aid.

Then, last wknd, I had Norton running and it crashed the app on a
specific line of code that writes an XLS file using the Formula One
control (a plug in Excel compatible spreadsheet). Disabling Norton
cured this bug and this made me wonder if Norton was causing a problem
with the db. Since Norton interjects itself in between apps and the OS
I thought it might be sniffing a little too much and the delay may be
causing the db to corrupt. I've disabled all Norton AV software this
morning and will see what happens. It may not be the problem or it may
be all Anti virus software.

My question is, has anybody else had this problem? An old VB3.0 app /
Access 95 backend app that was the prior version ran perfectly for
years without a single corrruption. Like this system, there are only 2-
5 concurrent users which should be fine for Access 2k. The long term
soln. seems to be MSDE or SQL 2k but that is hardly a quick fix.

Enough people write here that they have VB6/Access corruption questions
that I wanted to do a poll to see if this could be caused by Norton or
other Anti virus software.

Please respond to either this msg or to my email account
