Virus Alert

I am running both NAV 4.0 and NU 3.0. Recently I started getting
Virus Alert messages from NU, yet NAV says my computer is clean.
The reported viruses are rip Tiny (two .OVL files in
C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\), Nightfall.5815 (many .DOC files in
C:\RECYCLED\ and a few other places), Neuroq/Nightfall (7) (several
.COM files in C:\DOS\ and several .DRV files and a .COM file in
C:\SB16\), and Hare (C:\WINDOWS\DBLBUFF.SYS).
According to the virus definitions in NAV, most of the files reported
to be infected should not be targets of the viruses reported to have
infected them.
What's causing this and how do I fix it?

Can you say "false alarm"? Try using another scanner such as FPROT, Dr.
Solomon's, AVP or TBAV. False alarms are fairly common. NEVER rely on only
one scanner (except only use one memory-resident checker at a time).
I had some problems once with NAV with false alarms and had to reload the virus
definitions. For some reason, Live Update downloaded the definitions for the
wrong version of NAV. You may have to reinstall NAV and then run Live Update
again.

Hi Charles,
I have both programs too and I was advised to remove the AV sensors
from SysDoc...NAV 4.0 is much better anyway.
Don't bother trying to update virus definitions for NAV 4.0 with the
NU Live update interface...it won't work. You must use the NAV
program window's Live Update button.

Charles,
NAV does not check the Recycled Bin. Empty the Recycle Bin and the
Norton Protected Recycle Bins and the problem will go away.

Ordinarily, I would not do this, but since I and my fellow NU cohorts
are out of town this week, and since I don't have access to people who
can answer questions about viral infections, could you please post
this particular question in the Norton AntiVirus section? I don't
usually deal with questions at this level and so I usually run to the
NAV folks and ask for help in this situation. The NAV people are much
more knowledgable about this sort of thing.
Also, did you try to empty the Recycle Bin and the Norton Protected
Recycle Bin?
