I ordered some "Mustang" stickers from MustangWorld.com for my 99's rear
bumper.
I was really excited because they looked good in the pictures. My Laser
Red has a tan (buckskin?) colored top. I ordered the buckskin color. I
noticed as I was applying them that the color was not an exact match. I
was already committed to the project so I kept going....
The color looks kinda like grey poupon mustard instead of buckskin. Now
the word Mustang on the bumper looks like MUSTARD. The worst was today-
the neighbor kid who thinks everything I do is cool (I like that kid!)
Says, "That doesn't look very good" I knew it, but hearing it from a
kid-- it must REALLY look bad! (lol) I'll be busy peeling it off this
w/end.

I did the same thing to my '98GT. I bought the brushed aluminum ones for my
black car and they just looked white in when in the sun. Grant it, I do
like the bumper letter inserts when they enhance the car, but when they
clash, get out that hair dryer and the WD-40.

Thanks for the tip--I wasn't sure how to go about un-doing the damage.
Soak them down with WD40 and heat them up?? I'll try it. Will they
come completely off? Thanks!

Be careful with that heat gun... you could end up softening
or melting the bumper cover.

Sorry to hear your experience wasn't all that was hoped for. I
ordered some black inserts for my white GT a few days ago and *really*
hope that it looks okay on the car. :-)

Since we're on the subject, though, how long did it take you to get
yours from MustangWorld after you placed the order?

Tungsten- I think I had them within a week. Black on white will look
really good. They were easy too apply too. (Keep that soapy water
handy!) If I didn't have a convertible top I was trying to match I
never would have ordered the brownish (yellow-ish) color. Walt- Thanks
for the watch out for too much heat tip--- I'm so inexperienced at all
this, I need all the help I can get. (This is the first car I've owned,
that I ever loved & wanted to "fix up"!)

I put the black ones on my 2000 GT and they look great. I don't know
about how the other colors would look but the black looks good. (You
cant mess up black I guess)

I bought white ones for my 87 coupe from mustangworld.
They look good except that the "s" was really hard to put in.
well, now that i think about the inserts are NOT exact match.
i.e. they don't fit the the letter opening perfectly.

I just heated them up enough to soften them and then just carefully peeled
each letter off. I used the WD-40 to get the left over glue off. I'm not
sure if soaking the letters with WD-40 then heating everything up all at
once would help. It would seem that they would be too greasy to easily peel
up.

Other Lisa :-), AAAH, now I see what you meant (duh): heat first, WD
40 last. That sense. Thanks!

Lisa:

You can use a hair dryer to heat the letters up; it's plenty hot
enough. Bug and Tar remover will take off the rest of the adhesive
without messing up your paint. I've used this method a number of
times on body/windshield graphics and never had a problem.

I hear ya, Lisa. I got a free set of black inserts, and after putting
them on, they just looked too ricey, so off they went. The only think I
put on mine that looks good at all, was a single 1/8" gold stripe around
the side.

I had the same problem with some I ordered from mustang.com. Take it to
a high pressure car wash and blow them off. Be careful not to hold the
wand too close, or for very long. Good luck!

Hey everybody-- Thanks for your tips, comments, etc on the Mustang
stickers. They are history at this point (it looks so much better)
I just wanted to let everyone know how easy they were to remove. In a
moment of "I can't look at those one more second!" I lifted the edge of
each letter with my fingernail, and they pulled off in one piece. (no
soaking, heating, etc.) No glue left behind either... Easy on, easy
off. (whew)
Thanks! Lisa/99 Laser Red Sticker-less convert
