Is there a way to view publisher files without publisher
software? I've received some *.pub files but since I
don't have publisher software, I can't view this file.
Is there a way to view *.pub file?

Thanks,

Black Aliss

The following information covers Microsoft Publisher Viewers,
Conversions and PDF abilities.
-----------------------------
A. Microsoft Publisher to PDF
-----------------------------
You can convert and send your Publisher file to recipients in PDF format.
All the recipient needs is a free PDF reader, such as Adobe Acrobat
Reader 5.05, which is free from
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

To convert your Publisher file, you will need a utility such as Adobe
Acrobat 5.05
(full version), or even a free/shareware/freeware *.pdf converter:

pdfFactory
http://www.fineprint.com/software/pdffactory/standard/index.html

Win2PDF
http://www.daneprairie.com (For Windows NT/2000/XP only)

GhostScript
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ (For Windows 9x,ME,NT,XP)

Jaws/5D
http://www.ctrlp.com (for Windows 9x,ME,NT,XP)
---------------------------------
B. Microsoft Publisher Conversion
---------------------------------
1. If you have Adobe PageMaker 6.52 (& Plus) or 7.0, you can import
Microsoft Publisher files.

PageMaker 6.52 (& Plus) will import Microsoft Publisher 95 & 97 files.
You can download the conversion utility here:

http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/pagemaker/win/6.x/msp.exe

PageMaker 7.00 will import Microsoft Publisher 98 & 2000 files. This
conversion utility is included with your PageMaker 7.0 software. The
Converter for Microsoft Publisher 1.5, a utility included with Adobe
PageMaker 7.0, converts Publisher 95 and Publisher 97 files into PageMaker
publications. To start the converter, double-click the MSPConv.exe file,
which PageMaker installs by default in the following folder:

Program Files/Adobe/PageMaker 7.0/Extras/Converter for Publisher 95-97

2. If you have Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher, you can convert
publications either way.

When running Microsoft Publisher 2002, you can "Import" a Word Document.
Keep in mind that there will be some formatting loss depending on some
advanced features in Word that Publisher cannot handle.

To import a Word Document into Publisher 2002:

1. Open Microsoft Publisher 2002
2. Go to File>Import Word Document
3. Browse to your Word Document file (*.doc or *.rtf)
4. Click OK

or for some preset designs:

1. Open Microsoft Publisher 2002
2. Go to File>New
3. Choose "Word Documents" from the Start from a Design task pane
4. Choose your preferred design for the Word Document
5. Browse to your Word Document file (*.doc or *.rtf)
4. Click OK

To make a Word Document into a Publisher publication, or vice versa:

1. Open your document/publication (Word or Publisher)
2. Open your destination application to a blank page
3. Right click on your task bar and choose "Tile Windows Vertically"
4. Now, in your existing publication/document, highlight or select
the text or objects that you want to copy into the new publication/
document.
5. After the item(s) are highlighted/selected, hold down your CTRL
key while dragging the selected/highlighted items to your new
destination/document/publication and then release your mouse button.
This method is a drag and drop method, allowing you to create a copy
of what you are dragging so that the original publication/document
stays in tact.

This can be done with any version of Microsoft Word and any version
of Microsoft Publisher.
-------------------------------
C. Microsoft Publisher Viewers:
-------------------------------
Unlike the Microsoft Word and PowerPoint viewers, there are no
viewers for Microsoft Publisher.

Publisher 1.0 through 2002 are all developed in a proprietary
format which has some intense graphic use. Microsoft has stated
that there are no intentions for developing a Microsoft Publisher
Viewer.

However, there are workarounds. These work arounds will either require
you or the sender of the Publisher file to have access to Publisher
or Adobe PageMaker.

In Publisher 2002 you can:

1. A graphic, such as jpeg, tif, gif, etc. In Publisher 2002, go to
File>Save As> and in the files of type choose which graphic type you
would like to save the file as. Once saved, you can then email this
file as an attachment. Once the recipient receives the file, they
will be able to view this new graphic in almost any software
application.

2. As an embedded html email. In Publisher 2002, go to File>Send To
mail recipient. You will be prompted "this page only?", and choose
yes. This will require the use of an Outlook product on your computer
as well as the ability for the recipient to read html/rich text mail.
The subject line is filled in with the name of the publication.

Publisher 2002, 2000, and 98 will allow you to convert the publication to:

1. A gif file for recipients to open in a paint/drawing program. For
directions visit:

http://www.mvps.org/publisher/conversions.htm

2. An *.mht file. An *.mht file can be viewed by recipients using
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6x, 5x and 4x. This also reduces file
size for portability. For directions visit:

http://www.mvps.org/publisher/conversions.htm

3. As an .html file which can be viewed in most any browser on the market,
as long as they are version 4.x or greater. For directions, visit:

http://www.mvps.org/publisher/conversions.htm

Also, visit my site at http://www.mvps.org/publisher for more conversion
and compatibility information. If you have any further questions, please
feel free to post back and ask!
