My local BMW dealership, when asked why he felt I shouldn't import a new BMW
325Ci Sport from overseas, said that because it wouldn't show on the BMW GB
database I would have trouble selling it at a realistic UK price; he went on
to insinuate that I would get a cold shoulder and little assitance from a
BMW dealership when it came to servicing etc. Has anyone else found this to
be the case? By the way, I'll be saving almost £7000 by importing said car
with MicroNet Showroom - does anybody know much about them before I start
spending money?

god what low-lifes some of these dealers are!

I imported August last year (3 Series). The car is now registered with my
local dealer and has been in twice, first time was to fit my new number
plates to it - which I supplied but the dealer charged me NOTHING to fit - ,
and the second was to change one of the settings on my key. Both times they
couldn't have been more helpful.

I saved around the £7k mark too, so stick 2 fingers up to that dealer and
report him to BMW for bad practice!!

PS - almost forgot; the car also went in because I had a small problem with
a fitting latch on the front offside indicator. It was replaced under
warranty, no questions asked.

Ask the sales guy to repeat his comments so you can take notes and report
him to BMW UK. Then go to see the service manager and ask him his view on
"imports" (all BMW's are imported are they not?). He will tell you that his
service department is a profit centre and he cares not that his customers
bought their car in Twickenham, Timbuctoo or Toulouse, you are a customer
for him.

All warranty work he charges back to BMW and therefore even makes a profit
on this.

The DVLA will eventually let BMW know the car is in the country for addition
to their database, but you can speed up the process by visiting them with
the registration document when you get it, together with the service book
showing the first pdi stamp of the supplying dealer.

Micronet showroom offer keen prices, but they are not a limited company
because their proprietors are forbidden by Companies House for acting as
such. They might have turned over a new leaf?

Use Harry Roberts excellent site at www.truro.swinternet.co.uk and go
direct.

Hi,

I had to book my new imported BMW into a dealership yesterday as I need some
warranty work doing.

They were great !! I made it clear that it was an import and they said they
didn't care (although be aware they will try to sell you an extended 2 year
warranty!!)

I now have the car booked in for the work in a couple of weeks and they will
provide a loaner car during the day etc.

I was very happy with the service (so far!)

Exactly the same response when I asked for dealers view - must be a
script as 10 lines of why nots:
"we will service you, but you may not get a loaner
some options get fitted in uk
resell not as easy, (I havent got my 530d yet but have a car deaer
interested already
you wnot have me to help you (!!)
1 vs 3yr warrant (you can buy extra for 350 pnds)
..."

basically can see ehy they dont want you too, sooner pxs in line the
better but I will enjoy rolling up to the showroom soon...

anyone gone back to bmw uk with complaint?

I am thinking about a 530D Tourer import. Local BMW garage advised about 1v3 yr
warranty and reckoned re-sale will be about 5% below UK price after 3 years
with average mileage/condition; otherwise, they have agreed to do the pre-sale
check (free), warranty work as though it was a car supplied by them, together
with normal BMW service, ie loan car etc.

Did you manage to find anyone offering any realy special deals that you are
prepared to share?

If the car is to UK spec and you buy an 'after market' warranty, there
should be no difference in trade in value.

As you wouldn't have the 2nd \ 3rd yr BM warranty, you could use an
independent garage who's cost would also be lower. You pays your money and
all that!

I have a 530d Touring on order with Oneswoop. Got 12% off UK prices whereas
UK dealer would only give me about 2% off ! Has worked like clockwork so
far. Ordered it on 1st November. The "my driveway" feature on Oneswoop's
website has been good in keeping me up to speed with developments and
Oneswoop have been quite good on the phone too. When I ordered it they said
it would be coming between 16th - 31st March. I am now told that the build
date is such that it will be at the German dealer on or about 14th February.
So....fingers crossed, its working well at the moment.

Believe that local dealers here have a legal obligation to service cars that
have been bought in Europe.

They have a legal obligation to do warranty work for free which is something
different from saying they have to legally do service work.

In reality, it would be a strange dealer who turned down servicing on an
import. Grey ie Japanese imports, have heard some dealers are charging as
much as £60 ph for servicing!

Agreed but a BMW bought in Europe should not attract these kind of costs as
I am sure that BMW would not want this kind of anti-Europe bad publicity. If
ever there was a case for Anne Robinson, Esther Rantzen etc !!
