The way it should work IMHO is by creating a new project, selecting
"Other Projects/Extensibility projects" and "Shared Add-in", and
specifying that MapPoint should be the host for this add-in.

Unfortunately, it isn't present in the list of possible add-ins. I
tried creating and compiling an add-in for Word instead and adding
that to the list of MapPoint addins, but got the error message that
the dll I selected isn't a valid Office add-in. I ignore if VStudio,
MapPoint or yours truly are to blame here.
