I've a DSL connection into my home, via a DSL modem / router / 4 port
hub. I also have a Sitecom Wireless Access point that allows me to
use my lapptop in my apartment. My neighbour, who lives 2 floors up,
would like to share my connection for a couple of months during the
year. He's got a laptop, and a Linksys wireless card. I configured
his card to access my access point, but unfortunately the signal is
very very weak in his apartment.
He has also been given a LInksys Wireless Access Point / Router
(BEFW11S4). My questions are:
Can I use this device as a repeater to boost the signal (repeater)?
It's not obvious from the documentation or from the LInksys web site
if it can be used for this purpose.
Or, can I use my own wireless access point as a booster (it says that
it can only be used in this way if I have another device that can also
be used as a repeater)?
I'm probably trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, but any
advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
Try using Google, I posted the answer to this twice yesterday!! :)
Yes you can *if* you install the Dlink DWL900+ firmware.
As to what you can repeat, it definitely works as a repeater for:-
Linksys WAP11
Dlink DWL900+
Netgear ME102
likely others of the same chipset families.

Sorry! I now see that you did, but at the time I wasn't really sure
what the right question was. Apologies.

So, install Dlink firmware on Llinksys equipment? Do you mean install
the WAP11 firmware on the Linksys BEFW11S4, or have I got the worng
end of the stick?

Thanks for the help!
Chris
No, the Dlink DWL900+ firmware on the WAP11 but just be aware that I
don't know if it will solve your problem.
Google for the firmware procedure as it's not just a case of installing
the firmware from the dlink site straight onto the WAP11.
David.
Hmmm, thanks for the help. I'm still confused though. My WAP11 is a
Sitecom access point, that already has the ability to be either an
access point or a repeater, or both. I don't understand how loading
Dlink DWL900+ firmware onto that will help. Can you enlighten me?
Thanks
Chris

Jim, unfortunately it's only version v2, not 2.6 (firmware version
1.42.7). I'd be really interested to know how you get on, as I've
been running around my apartment with my laptop for the whole
afternoon, but no luck! If you have any success, please could you
post what you did here? Many thanks!
Chris
Well I was taking the WAP11 name to refer to the Linksys WAP11!

WAP11 is not a generic term and hence the confusion. :)
David.
I've got about 8 WAP54G APs and would really like them to work like
repeaters for each other...

I doubt it because it's a completely different product.
