Hi,
I'm trying to set up a boot sequence that starts with ramdisk
as the root (kernel and ramdisk are loaded over the network) and then
'pivot_root's to an NFS partition. I have it basically working, but
have run into the following problem with portmap/lockd:

To ensure that I can unmount the ram disk, I kill off and
restart the portmap program after pivoting; according to the portmap
man page, I should now restart any RPC servers; however, lockd appears
to be unkillable (presumably because it is a kernel thread ?). How do
I get around this ?

I am using Redhat 7.3 with a locally compiled 2.4.18 kernel
(patched for RTAI).

Thanks,
Richard
