| The attached zip contains an HTML file,
| "the breaking of Cyber Patrol 4". For those
| who don't know, this contains info on how
| the encryption of Mattel's censorware product
| was broken, and details of some of the websties
| blocked. Mattel has taken out a court injunction
| and is shutting down mirror sites with this on as
| fast as it can, so I reckoned it was time to do a
| bit of blockade-running.

mr inh, i'm sure you're a nice fellow, but most folks who get adscc
won't be able to see any binary attachments (such as zip attachments,
which is what you posted) that you might post in adscc, since adscc
isn't configured across usenet to accept binaries as posts. it's
configured to be a text-only newsfroup.

if you want to do this (post binaries)- you might want to let people
know that they can view the zipped attachment on alt.discordia.scc at
remarq.com. or you could deviously use the subbies binary newsfroup
[alt.binaries.slack] to post it there without a trail here and then
only leave a pointer message *here* in adscc that the binary is there.
just a thought. :-)

Wrong. I am the incarnation of pure evil.

Probably a good idea. I remember a while back it was decided (by Zog, I
think...but maybe someone else) and agrred on that posting binaries in a
non-binaries newsgroup, while not usually allowable, could be excused as
generally chaotic.

oh yes, of course it is chaotic. all i meant was
that if you want everyone to see something like
that, it's not gonna happen because of how usenet
is.

for example, i didn't see Hexar's post with the map
attached to it and i've never seen any of the pictures
that people have posted.

i wasn't scolding you for posting it at all. i very much
apologize if that's how you took it. :-)

Not at all, I was just trying to explain why I felt it was OK to post
binaries- and I apologise for making you feel that you had to apologise
(this could go on for a looooong time)

i accept your gallant apology!

i'd said that about the
apology that never ends because
there is a song that is named
"the song that never ends"

for your singing pleasure:

The Song That Never Ends
(source: "LambChop's Playalong")

This is the song that never ends,
It just goes on and on my friends,
Some people started singing it
not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it
forever just because,
This is the song that never ends....
(repeat, and repeat, and repeat...)

i saw part of an A&E show on python the other
evening. it was interesting. eric idle was the
narrator, but i've never really gotten him,
if you know what i mean. i guess that i really
liked cleese when he struck out on his own like
with faulty towers and in a fish called wanda.
he's a master at physical and droll comedy.

i also liked gilliam's movie, brazil. a lot. same
with munchausen and the movie, fisher king. fisher
king is a masterpiece, i think. when i was teaching
i used it and brazil both in literature courses. <g>
i haven't seen 12 monkeys or fear and loathing, as
i can't stand brad pitt or that dufus johnny depp,
escept he wasn't too bad in benny and joon or that
scissorhands movie. anyway, i think gilliam is a
genius.

Terry Gilliam IS a genius. I can't speak for 12 Monkeys, but if you like
Gilliam's stuff see "Fear and Loathing." It's even more twisted than Brazil
because it's a true story (sort of). And you can't tell it's Johnny Depp...
he puts in a stellar performance as Hunter Thompson.

12 Monkeys is a work of genius, as is Time Bandits (although the later is
less so) Brad Pitt acts better than I've ever seen him act before or since
in 12M. I keep on missing the other films when they're on TV, unforunately.

ok, i'll have a look at fear and loathing sometime,
but i really cannot stand that depp guy. he's about
as bad as that keanau guy who always sounds like
he's about to say 'dude' no matter what role
he's in! i'll watch it for *you* Hexar, even though i
really haven't heard much good critical buzz on it. :-)

btw, didn't he get that project (fear and loathing)
tossed into his lap at the last minute?

i liked brazil because it was so closely related to
orwell's 1984 while being visually exciting and
thematically stimulating. great brain fodder in
that movie. tuttle, buttle, and the fly on the
typewriter -- deniro's cameo as the underground
freedom fighter in search of the truth
(much the same thematically as robin william's
character in fisher king) -- i could go on
for several pages about that. to me,
it's clear that gilliam has read a lot of the same
stuff that i have. he's deeply interested in the
human condition, in our depravity and in our ultimate
salvation -- that interests me. i am quite
simply, smitten with him as a filmmaker. :-)

nope. never heard of it. but i looked it up too and
saw that it's a cronenberg film. i like some of his
work, and i do like jennifer jason leigh as an actress
mainly because she chooses very quirky and eclectic
roles. i read a synopsis [1] of the film and have to say
that if it's like the matrix, i'm not interested.
i suppose that makes me strange - someone actually

The themes dealt with are similar to the Matrix's, but it's not actiony.
I advise you not to eat while watching it (I speak from experience) If

not at all. it would be my sincere pleasure to do
so, especially for such a nice young chap. :-)

however, i have to say that any young lady
worth her salt should recognize it herself
and my instructing those who don't see it
for themselves might be rather futile,
mightn't it? in other words, they wouldn't
know a good thing when they saw it so why
should they recognize it if someone else points
it out to them? it's better, in my experiences
(which are not insubstantial) to see and know
something for myself instead of relying on
someone else's opinion. i should think that if
you are just yourself, the right ones will show
up eventually, which is not to say that you will
recognize them either <g>. that might not be
particularly helpful right now, since you are a
horny teenager and all, <g> but good things do
come to those who wait, or at least that's been
true for me. if all you are looking for is a girl
to relieve your horniness, i would suggest
masturbation and plenty of it! ;-] i hope that
doesn't offend you.

Something like that.

It would take a lot to offend me, and nothing sexual would. The only
things I get offended by are blatant discrimination, the denial of
rights and suchlike. And I'm already using that particular remedy anyway
(along with, although they don't usually admit it, approximately 98% of
the male population aged over 14)

Then again, when was the last time that something *made* sense?

It was among 14-year olds, but it's still a nice figure to shock people
with :-)

There are still women in our mental institutes who were put ther for
being caught mastrubating <1960. And they're so institutionalised that
they wouldn't be able to survive by themselves.

Of course I want to add it! And I'm far more scatterbrained than

The beeb is also known as the BBC or (for some reason) Auntie. We
call it all sorts of things over here- affectionate nicknames, if
you like. It seems strange that an entire country can feel
affection towards a company, but I think it stems from WW2 and
the stuff they did then. Also, it's state owned (though *NOT*
state controlled), so we finance it directly.

ok, i watched it and really liked it, but i
want to watch it again before i post
or write anything about it because it's
now been a few days since i saw it.

maybe nobody's interested in it, so i
might just make a separate post about
it if i do.

i'm tired and i finally got my

stopped goofing on me. it was eeping
and cheeping, but now it stopped that.
<sigh>

i had a long response typed out to this
and another post and lost it <boohoo>

why was my mopuse eeping?

Time flies when you attach wings to it and throw it off a cliff.

Did you remember to feed it?

It wasn't really negative. In fact, having a positive nickname from a
teacher at that age is far worse, since it makes it look like the
teacher prefers you to the other kids.

Of course I like you, little toad. I have never met a friendlier small,
green, hopping animal in my life.

Move to a more Socialist country with a National Health Service. Of
course in those countries everyone complains about how awful it is.

Relatively speaking, not really.

They did spy stuff too- sending coded message to the French resistance,
telling people how to build crystal radios with household objects, that
sort of thing.

It works pretty well. In order for it to be legal to use any device
capable of decoding TV transmissions in Britain, you need to pay a bit
over £100 (US $160) per year for your houshold. And the BBC makes the
best TV in the world, IMHO.

i understand what you are saying. being a
teacher's pet is not always desirable. i did
my best to treat all of the kids the same
and they appreciated it, i believe. every
day was a new day that they started with
a clean slate with me.

I thought your server was buggy.

that must have required a lot of patience.

I meant relative to everything. What does 'wierd' mean anyway?

I meant the BBC did spy stuff. Anfd the war would have ended a lot
quicker if we weren't involved, because it would have finished before te
US joined.

not on this end, mr inh. :-) i called mindspring,
well, it's really earthlink now, but it'll always
be mindspring to me. :-) and they said no
problems on their usenet servers today or
for the past week or so.

for example, this post of yours was timestamped
and sent at 12:31 pm here, which is central
standard time, and it showed up sometime
after 2 pm here. :-) your server must be queing
its posts or spooling them and sending them out
later. could you find out if that's it?

: You get two BBC channels plus three others

ok, then that's consideribly different here. we
have commercials on just about every station
any more, even the public broadcasting stations
which are supposed to be totally commercial free.
they seem to be slipping a bit and the way that
companies get an advert on pbs is to sponser a
show. cheeky sods. <g> did i use that term right?

here, tv is free - by that i mean the local stations
and the area/local public broadcasting stations.
you may have to use an antanna to get the stations,
but basic tv is totally free.

then there's basic cable. for about $25-30 a month,
subscribers can get their local stations, plus the free
pbs stations as well as several superstations (such as
wgn from chicago, tbs from atlanta, tnt also from
atlanta, and so on), plus news stations like cnn and
msnbc and cnbc (a business station), plus the disney
channel, and lots of other programming (anywhere
from 15-40 other stations) from the food network
to religious stuff to home shopping to e!, arts and
entertainment, biography, court tv, mtv (and the
other music stations), the comedy and sci-fi networks,
nick at night, and so on. some get bravo or the encore
movie stations with their basic, as well as the
american movie classics channel (amc-old movies).
when i say local stations, i mean their abc, nbc,
and cbs affiliates.

if you want to get premium stations like hbo,
showtime, cinemax, and ppv, then the price goes
up with each thing that you add on. there are
packages that you can get.

i have about 90 channels, and i don't even watch
half of them. it costs about 80 cents a channel a
month.

then there's satellite tv, and i can't have that as i can't
attach anything to my townhome since i lease it. :-)

so per year, if you just get basic cable, it's about
$300. if i'm mis-stating this, i hope that someone
will correct me. it's different in every community
as there are several cable stations that control the
costs and it depends on who owns the cable in your
area. does this make sense to you?

oh - on the premium stations like hbo and so on, they
only advertise for their own programs - they don't
have product commercials on their channels. the
other stations all have mega commercials. for example,
a 30 minute comedy show might really only be about
20 minutes long due to the commercials!! if a commercial
comes on, i generally click onto something else. :-)

: > i agree that the bbc programming is excellent!

yes, very!! :-) we have the discovery channel, the
history channel, the biography channel, and pbs,
all of which have tons of documentaries as do a&e
and the travel channel and there's another really
good one that i'm just not remembering right now.
oh well.

I could, I guess. The posts seem to be getting through OK now, so I
doesn't really worry me.

Once you look at anything close enough, it appears to be 'weird'.

lol

Yes.

I think we can get the Discoverey channel by paying.

i was just worried that your service might not have

i like "frontline" on pbs. and i watched a really good show
on the hostory channel about the tulsa race riots of the
1920s. excellent production.

As I've already said, they *were* upgrading recently so it was probably
just an error due to that.

My favourite factual TV programme is the BBC's "Newsnight". Their
interviewers seem to thrive on unsettling politicians, and they will
argue with them if the answer they get isn't clear enough- one time
Jeremy Paxman, their best, asked a minister the same question 14 times
without getting a straight answer, to the huge embarressment of the
government. And it's suc an influential program that ministers can't
afford to avoid it.

: My favourite factual TV programme is the BBC's "Newsnight". Their

: interviewers seem to thrive on unsettling politicians, and they will
: argue with them if the answer they get isn't clear enough- one time
: Jeremy Paxman, their best, asked a minister the same question 14 times
: without getting a straight answer, to the huge embarressment of the
: government.

that's tenacity!

i love it!

: And it's suc an influential program that ministers can't
: afford to avoid it.

sounds very good!
