Disabling Macromedia Flash in Internet Explorer

There is one registry setting, when added to the registry, will disable
Macromedia Flash and there will be no annoying warning from Internet
Explorer because you have disabled ActiveX controls.

Create a text document that has the following:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

Rename the extenstion of the text file to .reg and double click on it.
Windows will ask you if you want to add this information to the registry.
Click YES. Now Macromedia Flash is disabled.

The information for disabling Flash was derived from Microsoft Knowledge
Base article titled "How to Stop an ActiveX Control from Running in
Internet Explorer". (See here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=240797 ) Since Flash is an
ActiveX control, this knowledge allows one to disable Flash with this
simple registry file.

To re-enable Macromedia Flash you will have to remove the blocking registry
key which the above file adds. To delete this key, open regedit.exe and
delete:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}]

Now Macromedia Flash is re-enabled.
