iMovie 2 and Samsung or Hitachi camcorders?

  I need to find out whether a Hitachi VMD965LA or a Sumsung SCD55
camcorder is compatible with iMovie 2. No Samsung or Hitachi camcorders
are on Apple's list of supported camcorders, but I'm not sure if that is
because they are truly incompatible, or if it is because they are too
new to have been tested.

I have a video that my wife created from stills and music. Now I need to
get it to a VHS tape. I'm not going to buy a camcorder because I
wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost, so I am looking at renting.
The only two models I can find to rent are these two. I'm not sure yet
whether the Samsung SCD55 has A/V jacks to go to the VHS deck, but it
probably does.

Has anyone used these camcorders? How compatible are they?
