Are these quality tents? Other tents I've looked at are from
Kelty and Sierra Designs. How do they compare?
Thanks

My Timberline has held up well for 9 years, also. It's kept me perfectlyu
dry in the worst storms. The zipper did give out recently, though. Now
I have to consider if I want to replace the zipper in the spirit of making
camping equipment last forevever, or purchase a new lighter tent with a
slightly different configuration.
Campmor is selling the T2 for 124.99, the T4 for 154.99.

I have a 1980 eureka "wall" type tent which has seen service all over the
U.S. and Europe and the only sign of age that it has shown has been to
wear out the zipper pull ($0.28) on the front netting and the waterprofing on
the floor (to be recoated this weekend, come to think of it). We succesfully
had 4 people sleeping in it one night in a thundering rainstorm after the
other tents became waterbeds. The Timberlines are long-standing favorites
among those who use them, and (apparently) if you can afford the weight
the deluxe outfitter versions are even sturdier, though pricy.
Check the discounters for best prices (particularly Campmore in New
Jersey; 1-800-526-4784).
Unfortunatly, I don't have much experience with other
tents, but I have had a Eureka! Timberline 4 man tent for
about 8 years now. It has held up very well over the
years. Recently I purchased a Timberlite 2 man because I
wanted a lighter tent for backpacking. I have been very
happy with the new one as well.
Note: The old tent is still in use and barely showing its
age.
I've had a Timberline 2 for years and it is in great shape even with
fairly hard usage. They're cheap in price but good quality. I've
even used it in the winter a number of times without any problems,
although I wouldn't want to be using it in super high winds.

I had a Timberline 2 person tent for many years and loved it. A little
heavy for backpacking but the cost vs benfits ratio was outstanding.
I now have a Timberline 4 person tent. The new material Timeberline is
now using is not as sturdy but seems to be more waterproof. This flimsy
material gets in the way of the zipper system and causes many snags. I
consider this a big negative on this tent. Repairs sent back to
the factory are very expensive.
If I had it to do all over again I'd spend a little more and look very
seriously at something like the North Face Starship or the Sierra
Designs Comet.
I have noticed that the tents are of good quality but the zippers in recent
years are just too light. They don't mix well with kids.

The zippers gave out in my tent and I was at my wits end until I took it to a
repair shop and discovered they just needed to replace the pulls at $7.00 ea. I
never knew pulls wore out.
