Well, I got back from Lexington last nite. And now that I've gotten some sleep
I'll give my report on the events.
I got there a little before it began. I ran into a couple of former thingies
before I found Jeff and Bill. I wish I'd been able to hear when they told me
who they were. I'm sorry I cannot remember. One clue however, one said she'd
talked to Ivory a couple days ago. I was able to make that out. Anyway, after
finding Jeff and Bill and picking up my copy of AG and my ticket things began.
We were asked to be patient as Neil was running a little late. Moments later we
were informed that we wouldn't have to be patient as Neil was here.
The reading was first. Since he couldn't read the part set in Kentucky as it
gave away plot, Neil instead read the Cairo, IL segment. Since that was kinda
close, well across a river and nearer to western Kentucky.
SPOILER(but only a little one)

He attempted to skip some of the autopsy, but that brought a moan of
disappointment from one member of the audience, so he did read some.

After the reading was a (too) brief Q&A. It was informative. He talked some
about Tori's new album, "Strange Little Girls." And that they'd talked some
about it on the phone the evening before. He discussed his creative control in
movies. He basicly said he just didn't want them to f*ck it up. Then his mic
went dead. Once they got it working again he promised not to swear anymore, in
fear of offending the mic again.
The signing, I don't know how well it went. Jeff got us good tickets. Letter
"A," the first group of 25 to get to have their stuff signed. It started off
well though. Neil signed my books and drew eyes on the back of my thingie
t-shirt.He mentioned that he'd done one on the Friday. And though he'd said he
was going to do all the eyes different, he decided to do mine the same way.
(Maggie, you said you'd gotten your shirt signed on Friday didn't you? We may
have matching shirts then.) I have pictures at the developer. I'll post them to
the thingieclub group at yahoo in a few days.(Jeff, I've not forgotten your
e-mail either.)
I hung around for a little bit to check out the store and wait for my family.
As I was leaving I heard them announce group "L." So there was at least close
to 300 in attendance. If not more.
I had a great time at my first signing. Jeff, Bill it was good to meet you
guys. Now I'm wondering something, I've met my favorite author at my very first
signing, does that mean it's all downhill from here? ;-}
JeremyL
"A perky goth? Is there such a thing?"
"Sure, just look at Jeremy."
"I'm not goth, I'm a punk."
"No, the other Jeremy."

HeeHee!

Yes, I got mine done Friday. He said that since it was the _American
Gods_ tour, he'd do "something appropriate". I looked at it (mis-
matched eyes) when I got home, and didn't get it. I figured reading the
book would make everything clear.

I saved the book for my long-assed bus trip home last night, and
somewhere between Gary and South Bend, I got it, and howled. My sister
thought I was quite mad.

Explaining it won't help either, alas.

Yep, Mine be mis-matched as well. He said something about "American Gods Eyes"
to me. Who knows, we'll have to see if Christine Marie gets hers mis-matched as
well.

I don't want to unleash spoilers due to the time lag of people getting
and reading it later, but wouldn't mismatched eyes be a reference to
Wednesday?

Yup--definitely mismatched.

I think so too--and it's pretty early on in the book, since I think I was
about 29 pages in when I got it.

More on the first round of the Seattle signing later...

Yes, it would be.

Though I got my book on Friday afternoon, I didn't open it until about
an hour into my trip home from Chicago, which is why I didn't understand
the eyes til last night.

It gave me a terrible case of the giggles once I got it.

It was all I could do to *not* cloister myself to read this past
weekend. It would have been frightfully rude to my host!
