I had the pleasure of meeting KISS two times during the HITS tour. I had
backstage V.I.P. passes to three shows but unfortunatley Paul was in a
car accident and they cancelled their Conneticut show.... I hate to
admit that although Gene is friendly at first after a few hours the
"Demon" finally comes out...
Paul was great and all he was worried about was his ride home (this show
was at the Meadow Lands. just outside of NY City).... Bruce didn't stick
around, he was busy with his wife at the time... and Eric was the
Friendly off all of them... He realy loved his fans... I thought he was
funny 'cause I'm 6' 5" and here was little Eric looking like a midget
hairball... Damn he had alot of hair !!! anyway the other night I met
them was in Maine and it was pretty much the same story... I've also met
Ace and Peter a couple of times but both time were just a handshake...
there is much more to this story but I'll keep it short...
So come on and post your stories of meeting KISS !!!

I met Ace in New York City in January 1985. At the time he was in
between KISS and the Comet, and he didn't yet have a contract. We spoke
for maybe fifteen minutes about his activities at the time. He was
really cool, since he was on his way somewhere and I just bumped into
him on the street. With him being my guitar god in the seventies, it
was quite a trip for me.

I played in a rock band called Heist and in the late 80's we had a minor
hit that put our album in the charts and we were invited to a Gavin
convention in San Francisco.
The Gavin Report is a magazine for music publishers and radio people.
Anyway here we were with a lot of other stars of the moment, Warrant,
GnR and others, I felt like a star myself. I was in the mix, these were
my peers. Then in walks Gene and Paul. It was obvious that even during a
time when others in the crowd were selling more records and filling
bigger halls, these guys carried a prsence that was unmatched.

I was completely star struck. The singer in my band had to drag me over
to meet Paul and I think I said something stupid like "oh man your the
reason I'm doing this" He was real nice and cordiall. I was flattered
that Gene new the name of our album and had heard one of the songs from
it.

An experience I'll never forget.

I BID $1,600.00 on the Alive! gold framed album and met them backstage in
Miami, Fl July 6, 1995. I was neurotic making sure my video/camera were in
working order and have played-back the 20-minutes over and over. The reality
of FINALLY meeting them did not live up to the fantasy: I thought Paul and
Gene were
arrogant; their convention tour coordinator introduced Paul and Gene to me
as "the guy who bid on the Alive! album", and they ignored him. Well, I have
the memories, autographs and 20 minutes of video; and, my wife was not happy
about the $1,600.00.

I've heard some say that Paul and Gene can come across as snooty. While I
haven't met them, I can say that if you ever want to meet a rock star (quote
unquote) devoid of any ego, go to a Dio show. Mr. Ronnie James Dio is a truly
caring individual who always has time for the fans, even at 1 in the morning
and faced with a 5" thick stack of records to autograph.

I met Paul at a recent in-store appearance in Nashville. He was
supposed to appear for only an hour, but he was there over three hours
signing autographs for those who showed up. I figured he would have
truckloads of attitude, but I was pleasantly surprised that he was
extremely cool. Some friends and I tried to meet Peter Criss after a
Criss show at a Louisville bar years ago and after waiting in pouring
rain for 90 minutes while his band insisted he would sign things, he
made a beeline for the bus and left. That was the clincher after
witnessing an extremely lackluster performance.

Did anyone read the letter to one of the guitar magazines a few years ago about
the guy who encountered Ace in a convenience store? All he wanted to do was
say how much Ace inspired him on guitar and Ace was just like, "Yeah, whatever,
get out of my way." Or the interview where Ace was asked about his
contributions to certain KISS songs and his stock answer was, "I don't
remember. Go ask Paul." Has Ace's attitude improved since the reunion?

Well, I've met Ace on several occasions (once through the Rock Soldiers
meet and greet thing and twice hanging out before shows), and he was
never less than pleasant and friendly. Hell, the last time I met him,
he even remembered my name!

AMEN!! I was at that June or July 1992 Phoenix Hill show in Louisville
when Peter played. I thought he was rude as hell during the show (remember
his comment about guys wanting the roses during "Beth"?) and I waited in
that downpour for hours only to be blown off. Peter is a dickhead. I have
met all the others during various times. Sometimes they have been a little
standoffish, but most of the time they were quite cool. Hey, they are
human--they have bad days, too!

I too respect the guy, however I did not like the fact that he refused
to support Ozzy on his supposed farewell tour in 92/93. If Tony had no
problem with it, nor did the other band members, why did he skip out and
Sabb was forced to use Rob Halford? He stated "we all matured/ no ego's"
He stated "we should not be an opening act, we should be headlining"
Ego's
came in to play once again :(
By all means, a very respectable guy, but this was his down fall in the
early 90's. Just imagine more Sabbath albums after Dehumanizer with Dio.
They would have been Rockin the world!

Very hard to believe (I'm not doubting your story) but Ace couldn't remember
his wife's name!

Ya, I guess Ace was pretty messed up at times! But, when I met him he
appeared straight. It was during 1994-1995 that I got to meet him.
Perhaps he was off the sauce by then? I would assume that you (Gordon)
had lost contact with Ace by then.

What assumption? When I met Ace, he was straight. By then, you were
well out of the loop. So, who's making assumptions?

Just because a person is sober for the moment you met him doesn't mean he's
straight! And I wasn't "out of the loop" at the time.... just not speaking to
Ace directly. Ace and I still have many mutual friends to this day. (Yes - I do
have friends - LOL)
