I can not start apache. I get an error saying that httpd cannot be
started. I have SuSE 8.1 frsh install from FTP. Should I update to
Apache2. Is there a configuration I have to run to get it to work
please help.

The same thing happened to me.
But I have full 8.1 Pro box version.
I get the response :

Starting httpd [ PHP4 ]stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device
..failed

I also made all the updates but no luck.

Damjan,
Apache is actually started regardless this annoying error message. I got the
same and additionally cannot start mysql from runlevel editor at all. It
seems nobody has such a problem or does not know how to get rid of it...

Dmitry,

I removed apache, commanche and mod files in sector web server.
Then I reinstall it again w/o commanche.

The apache worked.

Try this way, maybe will help. ( good old windoze trick ;)
