B-16 How has time-travel affected the timeline(s)?

Each time someone travels to the past and interacts with others, the
timeline is altered, creating a new timeline. However, when you
return to the future, you will end up back at the timeline where you
started, as if all the changes you've made in history never happened.
There is, however, another strange discrepancy about time-travel in the
Dragon World, and that is you may not always arrive at the same timeline
that you got to on a previous attempt.

Hopefully, the chart below will show the different timelines more
accurately.

B-17 What are the different forms of Piccolo?

The original Piccolo Daimaoh comes from the Namekseijin who wanted to
become earth's Kami-sama. To be eligible as earth's Kami-sama, he had
to be pure goodness, so he cast the small evil part of himself out,
which became Piccolo Daimaoh. "Piccolo" in Namekgo means "separate
worlds." For this form, we can refer to him as "Piccolo Daimaoh."

After Goku defeated the original Piccolo Daimaoh, Piccolo summoned up
his final strength and spat out an egg.. an egg which soon hatched a
minuature version of himself, with all his memories, thoughts, know-
ledge, personality, and physical likeness. This, the son of Piccolo,
was essentially Piccolo himself, but in his mind he knew he was not
the same person as the original Piccolo, and after fighting with Goku,
his personality has been affected by Goku as well. This form can be
called Piccolo Jr. or Ma Jr., or simply, Piccolo.

After sacrificing his own life for Gohan's life, Piccolo was
resurrected and placed on his home planet, where he meets a dying
Namek warrior, Nail. Nail is surprised at the level of power Piccolo
has reached, but knows that even at that level, he is no match for the
powerful Freeza, so he offers to be merged with Piccolo. Piccolo
reluctantly agrees; although Nail promised to let Piccolo have total
control over the body's personality, inevitably Nail's personality
still has a strong influence on Piccolo's decisions. For references'
sake, if you need to state the specific stage Piccolo is in, you can
call this form "Picconailo," but he is still, for the most part,
Piccolo, and will go by that name.

During his fight against the cyborgs, Piccolo realized that he will
not be able to defeat the cyborgs by training alone, and the only real
way to be close in terms of power is to re-merge with Kami-sama, and
in doing so, he has gained the wisdom and knowledge of Kami-sama, as
well as some of the personality aspects of Kami-sama. Again, for
reference, you may call this form "Kamiconailo" or even "Kamicolo,"
but he is still essentially Piccolo, as still goes by that name.

B-18 What are the new rules/restrictions of earth's Dragon Balls?

After Kami-sama re-merged with Piccolo, ShenLon became no more and
the Dragon Balls turned into stone. To revive the Dragon Balls, Goku
invited Dende from Namek to be the new Kami-sama. Dende was able to
revise the rules and restrictions of ShenLon's power in the revival
process.

1. Must gather all seven Dragon Balls.
2. Chant required (Come out, Shen Lon, and grant my wish!).
3. Only two wishes per summoning of Shen Lon.
4. After the wishes are made, Shen Lon will disappear, the Dragon
Balls will turn to stone and scatter themselves; they will remain
stone for one year.
4.a) If only one wish is made during the summon and the Dragon Balls
turn to stone, they will remain stone for four months, and then
Shen Lon may be summoned again.
5. The Shen Lon cannot grant any wishes that are beyond the powers of
the creator of the Dragon Balls.
6. You can revive anyone or any group of people who fit a certain
criteria, if they did not die of natural causes.
7. If a person has been revived by Shen Lon before, the person cannot
be revived again.

B-19 How is Cell able to teleport back and be in Perfect form?

First, the official explaination from Cell:

"Hehehehe........... You all seem to be very startled...

"Very well, I shall tell you... The outcome of the event is also a
very fortunate miscalculation for me!

"Inside my head, there is a small, hard object; it is my 'core'; as
long as the core is not damaged, my body will be able to regenerate.
Luckily, during self-destruction, the core was not damaged.

"Truthfully, I never thought I would be able to regenerate... I was
very lucky... What made me even happier was, although I no longer had
Number 18 inside of me, I could still regenerate to Perfect form...
And not just the normal Perfect form, but like Son Gohan, my power was
significantly upgraded. This might be attributed to the Saiyajin
cell, which provides a great upgrade in power after surviving a near-
death experience!

"Plus, I also learned Son Goku's Shukken Iddou (teleport) technique!
In other words, I'm back even more perfect than ever! Not only did
Son Goku not defeat me, he became a great help to me!"

So, how was Cell able to learn the Shukken Iddou? He had seen it
performed many times before, but never experienced what it felt like
until he teleported with Goku. Therefore, all we can conclude is that
he learned by experiencing (not by seeing, as it has been suggested).

Next, how can he be in Perfect form without #18? Does this mean that
if he had been blown to bits with only his core intact before he had
the chance to absorbe #17 and #18, he would be able to regenerate into
Perfect form?

Not likely. My personal belief is that after he absorbed #17 and #18,
the genetic coding was somehow registered to his core. The core was
not working when he spat out #18, but was working during the total
regeneration, and that is why he could regenerate back to Perfect
form.

B-20 How is Cell defeated?

A galactic-powered Kamehameha fight between Gohan and Cell, with the
help from Goku and Vegeta. Yes, I'm being vague.. I want you to read/
watch for yourself! ;)

B-21 How can the kids become Super Saiyajin so easily?

(This answer is from Alexander Chen)

Nobody really knows how the kids were able to achieve SSJ with
apparently so little ease. All we know is that they did. This being
the case, there have been various theories thrown around. I can't say
which is right or wrong, but I will include the two which in my
opinion seem most plausible. These may be entirely wrong, of course,
but as yet, I have found no better theories:

One theory suggests that it is due to genetics. We know that hybrids
(i.e. crosses between different species ) often produce stronger
strains when done with plants. We can extend the argument and propose
that it has had a similar effect here, in other words, a half-human
and half-saiyajin hybrid is much stronger than a pure human or a pure
saiyajin. Obviously, this is a lot more complicated than plants, as
strength and power in warriors are increased by training. However,
this may explain why the kids were able to attain a higher power level
much earlier than the other warriors were able to. Remember that Gohan
also attained a much higher level than Gokuu did when he was Gohan's
age.

Another theory may be that once a saiyajin has managed to become a
SSJ, their genes also change in some way and they can then pass these
on. Both Goku and Vegita had become SSJ before Goten and Trunks were
born, whereas Goku had still not attained this level when Gohan was
born. This may explain why Goten and Trunks were able to become SSJ
much more easily than Goku, Vegita and Gohan (Bardock and King Vegita,
the respective fathers of Goku and Vegita, were not SSJ).

These are just two of the many theories that have been proposed. In
my opinion they are the most plausible two. The _real_ answer to the
question "How can the kids become Super Saiyajin so easily?" is that
nobody really knows! Apart from, perhaps, Akira Toriyama himself!
(There may even be no rational reason for it--it was just something
that he decided on! =) )

B-22 What is "Super Saiyajin 3"?

B-23 How did Mr. Satan win the Tenkaichi Budokai?

In the first one that he won, none of the competition had strength
even close to that of Chichi's.

In the one that Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Kuririn, Piccolo, and #18
entered, Gohan's ki was sucked by Babidi's pawns, while the rest
mentioned above, with the exception of #18, left the tournament to
help Kaioushin (Piccolo forfeited the fight to Kaioushin). Trunks and
Goten were disqualified, and all the other opponents were knocked out
by #18 and Trunks/Goten (or lost in an earlier match). #18 offered to
throw the match if Mr. Satan would pay her 200,000,000 zeni (the
typical monetary units used in the Dragon World).

After the Buu storyline, the Champion of the Budokai is the last guy
the winning contestant get to fight, and since no one could defeat
Mr. Buu (Goku and the others didn't join the tournament), it would
always be Mr. Buu against Mr. Satan, and Mr. Buu would always throw
the match (being the naive good friend of Mr. Satan).

B-24 What is the "Fusion-waza"?

Basically, the fusuion technique. There are two kinds, and no
specific name given to distinguish the two, so I will arbitrarily
name them "Dance Fusion" and "Earring Fusion" for easier distinction.

Dance Fusion

Gokuu learned this during the five years of inactivity between the
end of the Cell Game and before Gohan started school at Orange Star
High School. As the name suggests, the major requirement for this
type of fusion is to have the two people involved in the fusion
perform a dance, which are mirror images of each other, resulting
in a new warrior, who has the attributes of the two warriors who
formed the new one. When performed successfully, the newly formed
warrior will be significantly stronger. There are other
requirements and conditions, of course.

Requirements/Conditions:
o The two fighters must be similar in size, build, and power
(especially power; they have to be almost exactly the same, but
this isn't a major problem, since most of the Gokuu-tachi can
control their power levels, so the stronger fighter just needs to
lower his/her power to match that of the weaker).
o The dance must be performed correctly for a successful fusion.
Any minor mistake in the dance can result in a defective fusion.
o The fusion will last for 30 minutes, by which time both fighters
will return to their normal selves, but there doesn't appear to be
a way to end a fusion before this 30 minute time limit.
o After a fusion ends, the two fighters must have a waiting/resting
time of one hour before the fusion dance can be performed again.

Earring Fusion

The fusion technique of choice for Kaioushins which time forgot,
this technique is allegedly hundreds of times better than the Dance
Fusion. For fusion to happen, two people only need to wear the ear-
rings of a Kaioushin. As always, there are some conditions...

Requirements/Conditions:
o A set of Kaioushin earrings.
o The two fighters involved in the fusion must wear the earrings on
opposing ears.
o Each person can only have one such fusion in a lifetime.
o The effects of the fusion is (supposed to be) permanent.

(Note that while this fusion was supposed to have been permanent,
its properties seem to wear off under unexpected conditions, like
being inside the body of a magical being...)

B-25 What are the new rules/restrictions of Namek's Dragon Balls?

After the Namekseijins have settled on their new planet, the new
Saichourou decides that their Dragon Balls have been a bit too
restrictive, so he revised some of the rules/restrictions.. Since
not all the changes were mentioned, the list below may be a bit
inaccurate.

1. Must gather all seven Dragon Balls.
2. Chant required in the Namek language.
3. Wishes must be said in the Namek language.
4. Only three wishes per summoning of Puronga.
5. After the wishes are made, Puronga will disappear, the Dragon Balls
will turn to stone and scatter themselves; they will remain stone
for 130 days.
6. Puronga cannot grant any wishes that are beyond the powers of the
creator of the Dragon Balls.
7. You can revive anyone or any group of people who fit a certain
criteria multiple times, if they did not die of natural causes.

B-26 How is Buu defeated?

Goku gathers ki for a super Genki Dama from the people of Namek and
the people of earth. However, most of the people on earth were un-
willing to give part of their ki to Goku, so it took persuasion from
Mr. Satan for Goku to finally gather enough ki from the people of
earth. Even though there was enough power in the Genki Dama, Goku
lacked physical strength to make it destroy Buu, so a wish was made
to Porunga to restore Goku's strength, and finally, Buu was destroyed.

B-27 Why is Goku so happy to leave his family to train Ubuu?

Ubuu is the good reincarnation of Original Buu (this was set up by
Enmaou-sama), but didn't really know how to use his power to the
fullest.

Goku's obvious goal is to help Ubuu to learn to use such power, so
that eventually Goku can get a good, friendly fight with Ubuu (Goku
just loves a good fight).

B-28 How many episodes are in DB/DBZ?

Manga
Dragon Ball: 519 (plus one special)

Anime
Dragon Ball (Japan): 153
Dragon Ball Z (Japan): 291

Dragon Ball (US): 13 (Aired; there may be more on VHS eventually)
Dragon Ball Z (US): Still running.

B-29 How come so many characters don't have mothers?

Because they are not essential to the story. Bulma's mother was
introduced as comic relief, and to help explain minor details of Bulma
and Yamcha's relationship in the early part of DB to Goku. Meanwhile,
all the second generation DB/DBZ characters have mothers, because they
come from the first generation cahracters.

B-30 How does "ki-detection" work?

"Ki-detection" started off not being very specific, but as the series
went on, it became more fine-tuned, partly for the development of the
story, and of course it is logical to expect its practioners to get
better at the art.

It is somehow a given in oriental cultures that if someone is good at
martial arts, he/she must possess a good ability of sensing where his/
her enemies are. (When someone has the intent to kill, they give off
certain kinds of 'energy')

Near the end of the series, ki-detection is pretty well defined, one
not only senses the level of power someone else possesses, they can
only get a hint of that person's personality (i.e. good, evil, etc.),
and by that personality, they can also get somewhat of a "signature"
from that ki. We see evidence of this after Piccolo re-merges with
Kami-sama. Cell powers up, so his ki can be sensed by the Z Warriors,
and because Cell has the cells of the other fighters, their ki-
signatures can be sensed from his ki. Later, Trunks notices the new
Piccolo's ki, but doesn't recognize it (Trunks didn't know Piccolo
very well, so he was going more by ki-level), while Kuririn quickly
recognizes it as Piccolo's ki. Another example is when Goku tried to
teleport to Namek. He needed to look for ki-signatures that were
similar to that of Piccolo's in order to teleport to the new Namek.

B-31 Who is the strongest in the entire series?

This is a highly debatable topic, and at different times in the story,
there are different people who are strongest. However, ultimately,
I have to say that Goku is the strongest (afterall, he is the hero of
the story.. so he has to be), though the true measure of one's power
is not only in physical strength, but a factor of many things
combined, including luck, and ability to get help from others (and to
properly use that help). At the end of the entire series, if you
weigh all the different factors of each character, I think we can all
agree that Goku is the strongest... Next to Akira Toriyama, of
course.

B-32 When did Toriyama-sensei really intend to end Dragon Ball?

According to some interviews (I think), the original intended ending
for the series was at the end of the Freeza storyline.

B-33 Who has never died in the entire series?

The following people have (AFAIK) survived through the entire series;
listed in the order they were introduced.

Uranai Obaba. Furtune Teller, also Kamesennin's older sister. She
can travel safely between earth (the living universe) and the gates
to heaven & hell (the spirits realm). Apparently, she was at the
spirits realm during dangerous times, as we see that when she brings
Vegeta back for one day, she doesn't have a halo (a sign that one is
dead).

Enma-daiou. Gateskeeper and judge of the dead, he was never involved
in any of the fights, nor was he close enough to any of the battles
to get hurt. The only question is--can we truly consider this guy
"alive"? Well, if Kaiou-sama can *die*...

Mr. Satan. Surprisingly, this arrogant (but lucky) fool survived
through many amazingly powerful opponents. He nearly died when he
was shot once, but was healed by Buu just in time.

South Kaiou. The only other Kaiou who was introduced in the series,
he only showed up once, and has never seen battle in the power of
magnitude of the Goku-tachi.

Kaiou-shin. The only Kaiou-shin who survived an encounter with Majin
Buu, he just got lucky. He also nearly died once, but was found and
by the resurrected Kibit.

Mr. Buu. The fat Buu that we were introduced to, he was absorbed by
Super Buu, and later was almost killed by True Buu.

Pan, Bra, and Ubuu (and all the others who were born AFTER the Buu
saga). Because they were not born yet during these fights, they
never got killed.

B-34 What's this I hear about the new "DBZZZ"/"DB-GT" series?

DB-GT stands for "Dragon Ball Grand Tour," which is what some have
mistakenly called "DBZZZ." It is an anime-only continuation of
Dragon Ball Z (meaning it is not written by Toriyama-sensei, and
there is no corresponding manga in any manga phonebooks). The new
series has already begun airing on Japanese TV, it involves the
return of Emperor Pilaf, who used a different set of Dragon Balls
presumebly created by Piccolo Daimaoh, and accidently wished Goku
to be a kid again. Goku then sets out for intergalatic adventures
involving this new set of Dragon Balls (and Pilaf) with his grand-
daughter, Pan, and a grown-up Trunks.

C-03 Update Information

v0.01 A preliminary version with just a list of questions (12/11/95).
v0.04 Still preliminary, answered a few questions, changed the format
of the Index and added a rather crude ASCII art (12/18/95).
v0.10 Re-formatted the margins to fit the posting limits set by
Netcom, modifications and additions are coming along slowly
because my right hand is still recovering from injury
(12/25/95).
v0.25 Added DB/DBZ games list. Modifications to the events timeline.
Checked spelling with Microsoft Word. Added the DBZ Family
Tree, the DBZ Name Puns, and some CD Information (1/1/96).
v0.35 Modifications to the timeline, and answered a few more
questions (1/8/96).
v0.40 The modification symbols for the Mokuji has taken effect,
modified sections A-2, A-11, and B-01 (1/15/96).
v0.43 Continuing updates to the timeline (1/22/96)...
v0.50 Finished updating the timeline. Now beginning to answer the
shorter questions (1/29/96).
v0.60 Modified margins again. Minor trimmings of some questions on
the suggestion of Gautama Buddha, and answered a few more
questions (2/05/96).
v0.65 Answering more questions, though not in order.. (2/19/96)
v0.75 Actually answered much less than what would make a 0.05 upgrade
to the version number, but there aren't that many more un-
answered questions (3/04/96).
v0.90 Looking over the Mokuji, it seems that almost all major
questions have been answered, so with the semi-long section of
the Time-travel Timeline completed, this FAQ got a signifigant
version jump (3/18/96).
v1.00 Finally!! Version 1.00!! Actually, there are still a few
questions that are not answered yet, but I'm expecting some
submissions for the answers soon (4/01/96).
v1.25 Answered a few more questions, and now the FAQ is available at
my own web site. Most majorly, the "Dragonball Z CD Listing"
was integrated into the FAQ, and more internet sites were
added; a few more questions will be added in the next version
(5/06/96).
v1.30 Updated WWW section (some time ago) and the newsgroup section
to reflect the various new divisions (and that was quite some
time ago, so you know how long it's been ^^;). Answered the
question regarding tournament results, and slightly modified
the credits section (7/27/97).
v1.40 Provided the answer to the question of how many episodes are
in the anime series, incorporated Curtis Hoffmann's list of
movies into the FAQ instead of just providing a dead link, and
added info about fusion techniques (10/13/97).
