I want a game console that has inferior hardware specs, the option for
high-latency internet gaming, and one that forces me to buy memory cards for
game-saving. Bearing those requirements in mind, which console would I own?

Please help!

I want a game console. I don't give a fuck about hardware specs, I don't
give a fuck about internet gaming (got a PC for that), I'm not too cheap to
buy a single memory card that'll last me forever and I want to play more
then just Halo. Now please FOAD and let everyone enjoy the console they
like/bought.

It benefits shareholders and it benefits america. Buying American made
keeps someone in america employed. No different for the XBOX division of
Microsoft. They hire and emoloyee people, and thus add to the economy.

Have you ever thought of the fact that there are
also lots of US developers working on PlayStation 2 titles??

Have you ever thought of the fact that the game industry
is an international industry, and that companies, even when
they're based in the US employ lots of people from different
nationalities all over the globe? It's the result that counts
to a developing company in the end, and the amount of talent that
their employees have, not their nationality.

Having pride in your nations products happens in all other countries in the

Try living this side of the pond and then moan about not being able to have
pride in your country. The only people allowed to have any kind of pride
about life in the UK are all the ethnic minorities and asylum seekers. Any
white Englishman who displays the slightest bit of national pride is branded
a "racist". Pathetic.

Like I said in my previous post "its an American company that gets the
profits". They sub contract the making of the console but the profits come to
Microsoft and also microsoft employees ten times more Americans than Sony and
Nintendo put together. Microsoft also keeps it real with huge donations to US
college/business schools. Most teenagers just dont realize how many different
ways a US based company contributes to the local and national economy. Someday
you will hopefully understand.

Possibly, but we're not talking about the difference of hundreds of
games verses even less than one hundred. At the most the difference is in
one or two extra titles per genre worth mentioning on the PS2, at best, not
even on average. Each system has enough games to warrant the purchase,
provided the gamer's taste allows for the different games available on each
system.

Of course, if Microsoft are making a loss on their Xbox at the moment (as
reported, but not sure of the facts), then by buying one, you're taking the
money and profit OUT of the company! Never mind... ;o)

Heh, but since he didn't seem to want to know, I'd say that 99' through
2000 were more exciting gaming days than today, on all systems, and that 96'
was as well, what with the full force of the 3D evolution going on, but I'd
say that nothing compares to 91'-93' in terms of the industry seriously
putting out tons of quality content. The last year or so has presented very
little in the way of things that are seriously new and progressive, in my
opinion.

I said new and progressive. Meaning that it's new, and it adds
something that will be considered a necessary feature in all future games in
that series. Like how Mario 64 still gets copied in 3D platformers, or how
advanced AI and physics are still progressively getting better in racing
sims. I would also say that there were higher numbers of "good" titles
being released during the time periods I mentioned as well.

Please read the article I have highlighted in the above post from Fox news for
the results of folks speaking and acting like yourself. Its my opinion that
Americans should strive to support an American company when possible. Maybe I
am wrong but this is my opinion. It is also my opinion that a person who wants
to support an American company should not be trashed for his views. Its just
like the war that is going on between Boeing and Airbus.....Airbus is
undercutting Boeing prices because they are subsidized by the European Union.
Any airline executive for the US airlines should be shot for doing business
with this company. This country is going to a service based economy and all
the good jobs are going away. We are headed for another depression with nobody
making the money to support a service based economy.

Do you honestly think that Xbox is actually made in the USA? Designed,
yes. Manufactured, partially. Assembled, no.

My Toyota was manufactured and assembled in the US. Odd how most people
feel that "Buying American" is as simple as buying a Ford, when in reality,
many Fords are actually assembled down in Mexico.

Nike may be an American company, but do you think those shoes, hats, etc.
were actually manufactured by American workers??

This whole stupid "Buy American" thing is nothing but a ploy to get the
clueless bluecollar workers to continue supporting "American" companies who
use cheap foreign labor. Now, I don't know about you, but I'd think it'd
be better to support the company that gives more Americans jobs, and doesn't
just happen to reside within our borders - but that's just my wacky thinking.

And if you're curious, I did grow up in Detroit (yes, actually within the
city limits!) and my dad worked for Ford.

Try a URL that works, next time, ok? You keep referencing this article,
but all we see is "NOT FOUND."

Of course, knowing the site in question, I can guess it's some rant by
someone masquarading as a "journalist" that's masquarading as "news" about
how Americans should buy stuff from American companies.

Since 9/11, Fox News has lost any respectability and has become nothing
but a dangerously patriotic propaganda spin-machine.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Microsoft is located in the US.

But they're not using US labor to build Xbox - to me, that's more important.
The US steel industry was devastated largely due to cheaper sources from
foreign companies. When the US automakers switched suppliers, they made
more money, and screwed over 1000s of Americans who lost their jobs. Yay,
USA!

During my college years, at the height of the stupid anti-Japanese sentiment
in the 90s, you could buy 3 swings of a sledge hammer against a Honda to
show your "support" for US workers. Ironically, said Honda was manufactured
in Kansas, whereas Ford and others were busily moving their assembly plants
south of the border... Go American companies, go! Screw the worker, while
telling him to "Buy American".

Do you want to know why it is still considered an import? Because over 85% of
its content is made overseas. It is just assembled here. The only foreign car
maker who is close or who has made it to be considered domestic is the Honda

"Dangerously patriotic?" How is patriotism "dangerous?" Annoying to
liberals maybe, but "dangerous?"

How should we deal with this "danger?" Maybe their free speech needs to be
controlled and/or, if it's so "dangerous."

Fixed a typo. The dangerously patriotic propaganda from Fox News
brainwashed me into making a mistake.

Damn vast right-wing conspiracy...

Actually, most of the charity money is going out of the USA. The
cash is going to high-profile donations in India, and so forth.

Robert X Cringely in a recent column talks about asking the Gates
Foundation for a measley US $60,000 for SIDS research, but they blew
him off, largely because they didn't think preventing babies dying in
the US was worth the money.

The article should be here, but for some reason it is missing from the
PBS server (conspiracy theorists, start your engines):

Being a liberal myself I would have to agree with you on Fox News but I always
use them so that right wing conservative cant say that I have put the liberal
spin on the news.

In fairness ALL companies, not most, care about $$....and MS is no
different. With that said the main reason things are manufactured here is
the high cost of labor. Because we have such a thing called minimum wage,
that in itself ends up hurting jobs and those tasks are shipped elsewhere.

I'd rather see someone buy an MS product (or whichever product) because they
feel it's the best value, not because they are owned by an American.

How much exactly did you donate to SIDS research last year?

My preference for Honda's and Toyota's stem from the old adage "best value
for the money". :-) Not only are they more dependable in my experience,
they carry better re-sale value. With that said, I do own a Chrysler
Concorde (along with our RAV4) and am very happy with it.

Perhaps if we eliminated the minimum wage then we (US) wouldn't lose those
jobs to overseas workers.

And that's relevant to the discussion how? Your comment is as lame

Ya gotta love it. Your the one supporting an inferior product. My second car
is also a sister car to the Concorde and it has been trouble free since 1994.
I own a Xbox and it is better than any other console I own. I own a Chrysler
and GM and they have been better than any Honda or Nissan I have ever owned.
Its all opinion and like I said your not going to change my mind. Funny thing
is that even if it was an inferior product which it is not I would still buy
the American product. I would buy a Yugo before a Toyota if it was American
made. When I would pull up to the light in my smoking piece of crap Yugo I
would still get a smirk on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling sweetheart.
