Depends. Do you want to play hundreds of games, or will you be content to
play Halo for the rest of your life?
LOL! You have two choices.....the Sony PS2 or the Sega Dreamcast. I would pick
the Dreamcast.
I want a game console. I don't give a fuck about hardware specs, I don't
give a fuck about internet gaming (got a PC for that), I'm not too cheap to
buy a single memory card that'll last me forever and I want to play more
then just Halo. Now please FOAD and let everyone enjoy the console they
like/bought.
IMO all of the existing consoles out today have inferior specs
> the option for
> high-latency internet gaming,
There is no such thing as a lag free internet gaming, what is your point?
> and one that forces me to buy memory cards for
> game-saving.
I own memory cards for "all" of my consoles. Again, what is your point?
> Bearing those requirements in mind, which console would I own?
With the requirements in mind you have listed here........"every" console
out today.

I don't feel you need help if becoming an insecure panty waste was your goal
Also you can run Linux on an unmodded XBox too. You just need the Mega
X-Key, 007: Agent Under Fire, and some free time.
Says the unbiased PS mag reviewer.
sure, that's an overexaggeration, but hey, it was no less asinine than
your comment.
the bottom line is, regardless of the "brand", the industry as a whole
just seems a bit stagnant :(
If you're gonna troll atleast put some a little effort into it.
Still has a point, albeit an overstated one on his part. Of course
it's readily apperant that was sarcasm.

What, as opposed to when in the entire history of console gaming?
what a pathetic reason to buy a console. how does that benefit *you*
precisely?
Do you seriously want to know the answer to that?
sure, if you feel like it, but please respond to my entire comment,
rather than snipping out parts.
thanks!
Have you ever thought of the fact that the game industry
is an international industry, and that companies, even when
they're based in the US employ lots of people from different
nationalities all over the globe? It's the result that counts
to a developing company in the end, and the amount of talent that
their employees have, not their nationality.
If this is what influenced your console choice I feel sorry for you.
> Nothing wrong with having pride in products that come from your homeland.

Try living this side of the pond and then moan about not being able to have
pride in your country. The only people allowed to have any kind of pride
about life in the UK are all the ethnic minorities and asylum seekers. Any
white Englishman who displays the slightest bit of national pride is branded
a "racist". Pathetic.
Sad part is that it is not truly made in the USA...designed here most
likely, but definitely not assembled here...
Like I said in my previous post "its an American company that gets the
profits". They sub contract the making of the console but the profits come to
Microsoft and also microsoft employees ten times more Americans than Sony and
Nintendo put together. Microsoft also keeps it real with huge donations to US
college/business schools. Most teenagers just dont realize how many different
ways a US based company contributes to the local and national economy. Someday
you will hopefully understand.
Said so eloquently as American economic might continues to dwindle!!!!!
Possibly, but we're not talking about the difference of hundreds of
games verses even less than one hundred. At the most the difference is in
one or two extra titles per genre worth mentioning on the PS2, at best, not
even on average. Each system has enough games to warrant the purchase,
provided the gamer's taste allows for the different games available on each
system.
Sorry, I was replying to Phil, he was the one who snipped your post.

Of course, if Microsoft are making a loss on their Xbox at the moment (as
reported, but not sure of the facts), then by buying one, you're taking the
money and profit OUT of the company! Never mind... ;o)
Laura
Heh, but since he didn't seem to want to know, I'd say that 99' through
2000 were more exciting gaming days than today, on all systems, and that 96'
was as well, what with the full force of the 3D evolution going on, but I'd
say that nothing compares to 91'-93' in terms of the industry seriously
putting out tons of quality content. The last year or so has presented very
little in the way of things that are seriously new and progressive, in my
opinion.

Wow does somebody around here have that "Master of the Obvious" award? Its

What a sad life you must have.
Nope. Sorry. I'm not from Detroit. And I worship no multinational company.

And yet Microsoft continue to lose money on the xbox. Dispite this plan.
It all seems to be going wrong. Perhaps your wise mind should be hired

Finally something we agree on.....you only worship yourself. When did a warm
fuzzy feeling become worship? LOL sounds like I got the Toyota part right!
what the hell are you drivelling on about?
I said new and progressive. Meaning that it's new, and it adds
something that will be considered a necessary feature in all future games in
that series. Like how Mario 64 still gets copied in 3D platformers, or how
advanced AI and physics are still progressively getting better in racing
sims. I would also say that there were higher numbers of "good" titles
being released during the time periods I mentioned as well.

I drivel,drivel,drivel..........
What exactly is wrong with owning a Toyota or a Honda?
You can buy what turns your screws. I was just saying that buying American
gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Then a bunch of true patriots jumped me for
saying that. What kind of country do we live in where you get jumped for
supporting products from your own country? Like I said in my previous post
huge corporations pump huge amounts of money into their local and national
economy. Sure Sony and Honda pump money into the US economy but not like a US
based company does.
Things like the following influence my buying habits....

Here is some more drivel for you to read Phil.
www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,86737,00.html
I consider myself patriotic and conservative and I'm sure there are people
on here that see me like that as well, but I've never gotten into that whole
"Buy American" thing. Being a financial conservative I believe in a free
market and nothing says 'free market' more than me buying whatever vehicle I
deem to be the best value. American car manufactures won't improve if they
are coddled to because we feel we all have to 'Buy American', no matter what
the unions try to say.
Please read the article I have highlighted in the above post from Fox news for
the results of folks speaking and acting like yourself. Its my opinion that
Americans should strive to support an American company when possible. Maybe I
am wrong but this is my opinion. It is also my opinion that a person who wants
to support an American company should not be trashed for his views. Its just
like the war that is going on between Boeing and Airbus.....Airbus is
undercutting Boeing prices because they are subsidized by the European Union.
Any airline executive for the US airlines should be shot for doing business
with this company. This country is going to a service based economy and all
the good jobs are going away. We are headed for another depression with nobody
making the money to support a service based economy.
True...
Also MS really doesn't give a rats ass about America, or its people.
If they did REALLY care they would manufacture things like the XBOX here and
employ Americans to do the work. Instead it is done outside the states.
All MS cares about is $$ (like most any other large company)...all that
other load of BS he spewed is ridiculous, any donations or other stuff he
mentioned previously are all to benefit MS (tax write-offs, and PR) not
because they really care so much. I buy the best product, or the one that
suits my needs the best...buying something just because it is manufactured
somewhere in particular is ridiculous.
Where are you getting this info from? (link?)
and monopolies syphon huge amounts of money from Jon Q Public. And I am not
referring only to M$ here, there are many more greedy evil corporations in
the world, some even closer to home than them from my POV. worshipping said
companies is ridiculous. patriotism is another thing entirely, and something
I happen to support. they are two different things.

Do you honestly think that Xbox is actually made in the USA? Designed,
yes. Manufactured, partially. Assembled, no.

(ps. stop top posting.)
My Toyota was manufactured and assembled in the US. Odd how most people
feel that "Buying American" is as simple as buying a Ford, when in reality,
many Fords are actually assembled down in Mexico.
Nike may be an American company, but do you think those shoes, hats, etc.
were actually manufactured by American workers??
This whole stupid "Buy American" thing is nothing but a ploy to get the
clueless bluecollar workers to continue supporting "American" companies who
use cheap foreign labor. Now, I don't know about you, but I'd think it'd
be better to support the company that gives more Americans jobs, and doesn't
just happen to reside within our borders - but that's just my wacky thinking.
And if you're curious, I did grow up in Detroit (yes, actually within the
city limits!) and my dad worked for Ford.

Try a URL that works, next time, ok? You keep referencing this article,
but all we see is "NOT FOUND."
Of course, knowing the site in question, I can guess it's some rant by
someone masquarading as a "journalist" that's masquarading as "news" about
how Americans should buy stuff from American companies.
Since 9/11, Fox News has lost any respectability and has become nothing
but a dangerously patriotic propaganda spin-machine.
That's why I love my '70 Chevelle- no may that motherfucker was made in
Mexico! (Although a lot of the new big-block Chevy crate motors are being
made in Mexico nowadays).
On a side note, it was kind of funny when in light of the terror attacks how
many people went and put American Flag stickers on their Kias, Hyundais, and
BMWs...
> Like I said in my previous post "its an American company that gets the

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Microsoft is located in the US.
But they're not using US labor to build Xbox - to me, that's more important.
The US steel industry was devastated largely due to cheaper sources from
foreign companies. When the US automakers switched suppliers, they made
more money, and screwed over 1000s of Americans who lost their jobs. Yay,
USA!
During my college years, at the height of the stupid anti-Japanese sentiment
in the 90s, you could buy 3 swings of a sledge hammer against a Honda to
show your "support" for US workers. Ironically, said Honda was manufactured
in Kansas, whereas Ford and others were busily moving their assembly plants
south of the border... Go American companies, go! Screw the worker, while
telling him to "Buy American".
That may be true, but last I heard, Microsoft was still losing money hand
over fist, mainly because the games just aren't selling very well.
Everybody knows that the Xbox is assembled overseas. This does not mean that
Microsoft does not employee a crap load of people here in the US in the Xbox
division. Just check the annual report for numbers.
www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,86737,00.html
read em and weap!!!!
General Motors uses US Steel.
Some Fords are built in Mexico but most are not. Just like some Toyota's are
made here but most are not. What matters is where the profits go. Please dont
get so defensive. I used to feel the same way you do when I was driving my
Honda. Then I saw the light and have never looked back.
LOL! The same thing happened in the airline industry with many US airlines
sticking US Flag stickers next to the front door/cockpits of their Boeings and
Airbus aircraft. Sad thing is that the Airbus is a mostly French product.
Several US airlines took off the stickers when it was brought to their
attention by workers and the flying public. Like they say "if it aint Boeing I
aint going".
Do you want to know why it is still considered an import? Because over 85% of
its content is made overseas. It is just assembled here. The only foreign car
maker who is close or who has made it to be considered domestic is the Honda
Accord. But the profits continue to go right back to Japan.
My pref for domestic cars (specifically V8 and/or Hemi) stems from the old
adage "there's no replacement for displacement." Too bad I ain't got an
extra 15 grand lying around or I'd pick up one of the new 528 c.i.d. Hemi
crate motors from Mopar and worry about getting a car for it later. As it
is, I have to settle for the massaged 355 aluminum head Chevy- still more
than adequate for the "import tuner" kiddies who saw "Fast & Furious" one
too many times and got their parents to let them put a wing and a cheap Pep
Boys muffler on their Civic for their birthday...
"Dangerously patriotic?" How is patriotism "dangerous?" Annoying to
liberals maybe, but "dangerous?"
How should we deal with this "danger?" Maybe their free speech needs to be
controlled and/or, if it's so "dangerous."
Fixed a typo. The dangerously patriotic propaganda from Fox News
brainwashed me into making a mistake.
Damn vast right-wing conspiracy...
> Who cares if they care! What matters is where the money is going. Grants,
> United Way ....whatever. Not to mention the fact that MS employees a hell of
> alot more Americans.
Actually, most of the charity money is going out of the USA. The
cash is going to high-profile donations in India, and so forth.
Robert X Cringely in a recent column talks about asking the Gates
Foundation for a measley US $60,000 for SIDS research, but they blew
him off, largely because they didn't think preventing babies dying in
the US was worth the money.
The article should be here, but for some reason it is missing from the
PBS server (conspiracy theorists, start your engines):

Being a liberal myself I would have to agree with you on Fox News but I always
use them so that right wing conservative cant say that I have put the liberal
spin on the news.
In fairness ALL companies, not most, care about $$....and MS is no
different. With that said the main reason things are manufactured here is
the high cost of labor. Because we have such a thing called minimum wage,
that in itself ends up hurting jobs and those tasks are shipped elsewhere.
I'd rather see someone buy an MS product (or whichever product) because they
feel it's the best value, not because they are owned by an American.
How much exactly did you donate to SIDS research last year?
I plan too.
What "light" did you see exactly? That you're willing to support an
inferior product in the name of patriotism?
My preference for Honda's and Toyota's stem from the old adage "best value
for the money". :-) Not only are they more dependable in my experience,
they carry better re-sale value. With that said, I do own a Chrysler
Concorde (along with our RAV4) and am very happy with it.
What news services/programs do you respect?
Perhaps if we eliminated the minimum wage then we (US) wouldn't lose those
jobs to overseas workers.
Doesn't the Xbox have the highest game/system ratio?
> How much exactly did you donate to SIDS research last year?
And that's relevant to the discussion how? Your comment is as lame
as the "Let's see you write a videogame" attack when someone
criticizes their favorite game.

Ya gotta love it. Your the one supporting an inferior product. My second car
is also a sister car to the Concorde and it has been trouble free since 1994.
I own a Xbox and it is better than any other console I own. I own a Chrysler
and GM and they have been better than any Honda or Nissan I have ever owned.
Its all opinion and like I said your not going to change my mind. Funny thing
is that even if it was an inferior product which it is not I would still buy
the American product. I would buy a Yugo before a Toyota if it was American
made. When I would pull up to the light in my smoking piece of crap Yugo I
would still get a smirk on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling sweetheart.
