Hi All,

If any of you remember my Flame Dancers campaign for Command and Conquer,
then you may be interested in the following. Even if you haven't, but are
a Red Alert player, read on...

This campaign can be retrieved from:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/5458/genesis.html

I've just put Flame Dancers: Genesis, my new campaign for
Red Alert onto my website. Here is the features list and
the introduction (after you download it, read the Book of Remorse
in the Documents screen to find out all about the Flame Dancers).

FEATURES
35 all new missions (as two separate campaigns)
full, detailed storyline
new buildings and units
new graphics
new sound effects
an easy-to-use SVGA installation program
and its FREE

Here's the introduction for the story (although this doesn't do justice to
the full story).

INTRODUCTION
The Soviet conflict is over. The mighty armies of the Soviet Empire
have been destroyed by the newly formed European Defense Force. Once more
the world knows peace. But it is an uneasy peace, soon to be broken. For
a new storm is rising.

Not a force intent on global conquest or personal power. Rather, a
force willing to sacrifice itself for the good of the universe. For
this group of people have seen than mankind has developed the ultimate
weapon. A weapon that has the potential to destroy the universe itself.

The chronosphere.

Each and every use of the chronosphere is weakening the fabric of the
universe, but the majority of the world's scientists refuse to believe
the evidence. Yet it was the greatest scientist of all, the one who first
travelled back in time, that realised the damage that was being done by
the manipulation of time. Albert Einstein himself spoke out against the
continuance of research into temporal control, yet he was ignored.

Now a group intent on protecting the universe from mankind has
arisen. Led by a man known only as Remorse, the Flame Dancers have come.
And they have only one goal. Genocide. Mankind must die for the universe
to be saved.

You are one of the few to know the true identity of Remorse. You have
seen the catalogue of evidence that shows the chronosphere doing
permanent damage to the universe. Controlling the Flame Dancer brethren,
you will execute Remorse's orders, preparing the way for the Day of
Flame. The day when the fate of the universe itself will be decided.

This epic campaign, comprising 35 unique missions and featuring a
gripping storyline, pits you in the role of one of the highest ranking
members of the Flame Dancer organisation. It will take you from the end
of the Soviet conflict to the emergence of the Global Defense Initiative,
the first battles between the Brotherhood of Nod and the G.D.I, right up
to the arrival of Tiberium.

It will be your skill that will secure the fate of the universe.

Hope you all enjoy it.

Heeeeeeeee's BACK! Where have you been lurking lately, Andrew.
By the way, your timing is perfect. The C&C and RA groups are falling
into disarray. Hopefully this will inject some new life.

There's a new Austrailian server. It's slow (1.5k/second over a 33.6
in California), but it doesn't suddenly stop like the GeoCities server.
Also try www2 and www3.geocities.com.

Perfect. I've just been thinking whether I want to re-install The All New
Adventures Of Lemmings and play the 90 levels all over again and now, you
come up with another Flame Dancers campaign. Hopefully, this campaign will
revive this newsgroup, more than 50% of the post are unrelated to RA (like
the fight between Blah and Burghy).

The future for this NG looks bleak. It looks black too.

Oh, Dummyhead is rotting. Here is his info:

I don't think they're buying time. I think
it's a good idea to let the existing market
cool down a bit since there are so many
C&C clones and with the upcoming Starcraft.

By turning their focus on other types of games,
I think showing that a company like Westwood
can diversify into other game areas is a healthy
sign instead of rehashing its winning formula.

They've currently released Lands Of Lore and they'll
be doing the Blade Runner game next, I think.

C&C:Tiberian Sun would probably only be seen in 98.
We've waited for 3 years for C&C:Tiberian Dawn
and frankly I don't mind waiting for a while.
There's too many real-time games at the moment.

Best regards

Wow! These new missions are excellent. If you have'nt downloaded
them yet, you really should. Use the Austrailian site, though.
Somebody should hire this guy, fast. If no one offers you a job,
Andrew, maybe you should start your own company. And now to the real
reason for this post, has anybody gotten past mission 10? (against
that chaingun tank). And if so, how did you do it? I've tried making
a small air force of Yaks and also tank rushing him, nothing seems to
make a dent. If anyone has beaten this mission, please drop me a line

Well, thanks! That was the idea behind the creation of this campaign
after all. Good to know you are having fun. I still can't believe the
geocities download isn't working. I'll try and upload it again *grumble*

Nasty aren't they? :) Your key to beating them is mobility. The light
tanks cost $150 less in this mission, so you can build more of them
(remember, they now have machine guns, so can take care of most infantry
raids as well). Do not try and get into a slugging match with one of the
prototypes - they will chew you up and spit you out. Turrets are pretty
much ineffectual against them, and you don't have mines, so rely on your
light tanks. Keep them on the move (use the 'x' key to scatter them
around during your attack) and you may survive long enough to kill one of
the prototypes.

*minor spoiler*

You've got 25 minutes before the first prototype makes its way to your
base - before then, all you'll have to deal with are infantry. However,
if you get close enough to the EDF base to see it (maybe a little further
out, but not much), then a retaliatory force of a prototype and infantry
will attack. So its probably best to spend the first section building as
many tanks as you can.

This is a good idea, however, I think Westwood seriously needs the time
to develop C&C 2. They just completed a big project, and are still
working on Blade Runner, so I say give them time. I think we'll see C&C
2 around the end of summer '98.

Oh, and before the cynics add on another 4-5 months for the marketing
division, that IS my cyncial estimate. :)

> By turning their focus on other types of games, I think showing that a company like
> Westwood can diversify into other game areas is a healthy sign instead of rehashing

Westwood isn't branching out. Their real-time strategy franchise is only
one aspect of their production. You'll notice this is Lands of Lore II.
And they developed Kyrandia series. They created both a Dune adventure
game and Dune II. They also made Monopoly, and a few console games (such
as The Lion King for Walt Disney).

As to rehashing their winning formula, all of Westwood's games have sold
well and have been highly-acclaimed. I think they are just a generally
high-quality game developer. Westwood just has a philosophy of
concentrating on a few games at a time, so that is the real reason some
gamers not familiar with earlier exploits might believe Westwood is
one-tracked.

> They've currently released Lands Of Lore and they'll be doing the Blade Runner game
> next, I think.

Blade Runner looks fairly interesting, the technology is iterative
rendering, I think.

> C&C:Tiberian Dawn and frankly I don't mind waiting for a while. There's too many
> real-time games at the moment.

Only too many so-called "real-time strategy" games. There is nothing
wrong with a real-time game, and most of those C&C/Warcraft clones
aren't doing extremely well due to market fragmentation. I don't think
we'll be seeing a lot of sequelitis among the more recent developers. I
think with the market confusion, people addicted to this kind of gaming
are sticking with a few well-known brands, i.e. Westwood & Blizzard.

For example, I'm guessing Riven will sell MUCH better than the other
Myst clones. All on name-brand recognition. I think the problem with big
companies is that the variety and varying qualities of games they
release prevent building up a strong brand-name tradition. I think
Apogee had a good idea when they split off 3D Realms. Now gamers can
recognize the unique 3D Realms touch to games without having to separate
it from the dross of other Apogee games (incidentally, I think the
Apogee branch devoting itself completely to non-3D games was a big
mistake. Death Rally would have been nice in 3D. Just because it isn't a
first person shooter doesn't mean it can't have 3D).

I'm up to mission 10 now!

I would just like to say that the chaingun tank is hard to beat. 12
light tanks? No problem, not even 1/2 damage. Don't let that prototype
tank get anywhere remotely near your structures. Turrets are useless
against it.

Oh yes... and you only get about 20 minutes to build up your base before
it attacks. Gadzooks! Has anyone passed this level? I just KNEW it

I have honestly looked at past threads of this Ng via Dejanews and
most of them are exactly the same threads as now or are comparing Command &
Conquer: RedAlert to C&C....Another person who wears rose tinted glasses ?

Well, I don't doubt that it is great, but the bl00dy thing won't load.
It goes into the menu, but the mouse cursor isn't there, and the
background to the menu is gone, just leaving the GENESIS background.

Can you tell me how to pass level 9A first? The one about about moving a
spy into an enemy listening station (radar dome) and then building a fake
base. Whenever I move the spy into the radar dome, I hear a message,
"objective 1 met, reinforcements have arrived, mission failed."

What's wrong?

You need to keep one flamethrower alive.

[spoiler]

Send the four flamethrowers slightly ahead of the spy, straight down
where the base is. Force attack where the dogs are going to eat you.
Maybe losing 1-2 infantry. Then repeat with the other set of dogs.

Now, QUICKLY, send the spy into the dome. Simultaneously send your
flamethrower as far NE as possible, because a ranger will come down any
minute. Your goal is not to let the flamethrower get killed before the
spy gets in.

[more spoiler]

When you get your CY, build a turret quite to the east. A medium tank
will patrol, if you manage to destroy it, you can harvest enough gold to
build the fakes.
