With the ignition switched on, hold the 'select' and 'units' buttons down at
the same time for about 4 seconds, the service indicator will then reset and
give you no more problems for another 10,000 miles. (Both these buttons are
located on the trip indicator circular dial).

The dealer support for the (Ford Cougar) as it is known over here, is
absolutely zero, but we do have a Cougar club with forums etc. This is
closely linked to the Mercury Cougar Club in the US. You will find the US
site at www.newcougar.org

Actually, the wrench will come back on at 4800 miles. At least that it is
how it is on my '01 Cougar.

Interesting Adrienne, The UK Cougar service wrench is set for 10,000 miles.
As a matter of interest what does the US service book say regarding service
intervals? In the UK it's 10,000 miles, which I consider to be far too long
between oil changes. I always have mine changed at 5,000. I like as much
info as possible so I can pass it on to the UK Cougar Club.

The Cougar is not a popular car in the UK, It never had any promotion and I
think the imports numbered only about 48,000 during it's 4 year period. It
was also supplied in only 3 colors, Black, Silver Frost and Melina Blue.
I think they are a great car, I'm on my second which is auto, I notice
little change in gas consumption, which is a good thing considering we pay
more than double the price than you lucky people in the States!

We have earned our worldwide status of 'Rip Off' England.

Best wishes,

Ray.

I am going to assume that the mileage is measures in km when in the UK. like with Canadian based warranties on vehicles here in the US, a standard 2 year warranty will be at 24k miles, while a canadian built vehicle with read as 40k km. so when it all boils down, its approximately 5k miles between oil changes.
