Greetings all..

I currently run an NNTP server (P2-233, 112MB RAM, DPT PM3334UDW, and
what works out to be a 20-gig RAID5 volume. On it's internal IDE disk
sits a copy of RedHat 4.2 (libc5, 2.0.35 kernel), as speaking with the
author of the DPT drivers made me aware that mke2fs apparently doesn't
like glibc all that much.

In any case, the server runs along for a while, then without warning
innd will throttle itself citing a lack of disk space... checking the
disk, however:

news# df -k /dev/sda1; df -i /dev/sda1
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
/dev/sda1 19425941 10220425 8158119 56% /news
Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree %IUsed Mounted on
/dev/sda1 10477568 1791331 8686237 17% /news

Checking the console, I get these messages:

EXT2-fs error (device 08:01): ext2_new_inode: Free inodes count
corrupted in group 1068
EXT2-fs error (device 08:01): ext2_new_inode: Free inodes count
corrupted in group 1068
EXT2-fs error (device 08:01): ext2_new_inode: Free inodes count
corrupted in group 1068
EXT2-fs error (device 08:01): ext2_new_inode: Free inodes count
corrupted in group 1068

(today's report is just starting, only one corrupted group).

It is interesting to note that this problem only became apparent
after we upgraded the disk from 10-gigs. My first suspicion was
that perhaps either mke2fs or the ext2 filesystem itself (I hope
not) may have an upper limit on the size of a partition it can
create.

Anyone have any similar experiences like these, and (more importantly)
any fix(es) for this problem? Please email responses to
eco...@morgan.ucs.mun.ca, seeing as how my news server is the machine
being affected (I may not get to read news all that often because of
this problem).

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide.
