I'm looking for DOS and Windows (and OS/2) versions of userfriendly POP3
clients. Please drop a mail if you have a pointer to this software.

You can find PC-Eudora on:

lorien.Qualcomm.com /pceudora/windows

PC-Eudora's original release site is ftp.cso.uiuc.edu /pub/ (pc?
Whatever, one can grope from here.) Unfortunately, PC-Eudora requires a
specific, proprietary kernal - FTP software's PC/TCP.
NuPop, from Northwestern University, is DOS-based but does everything
PC-Eudora does. It is well-behaved in Windows. It is available from ftp.
acns.nwu.edu.

Wrong. PC-Eudora is a Qualcomm product, written in C++ by Jeff Gehlhaar, and
Jeff Beckley -- both of whom are Qualcomm employees. It is an excellent
Windows port of Macintosh Eudora which was developed by Steve Dorner (then of
UIUC). More recent releases of Macintosh Eudora (ver 1.3) have also come from
Qualcomm, so I suspect that Steve Dorner is now located there.

Wrong again. PC Eudora 1.01 required FTP's PC/TCP. Version 1.1 works with
the Winsock implementations from several TCP vendors, including -- Netmanage,
Distinct, Frontier Technologies, FTP Software, and Microsoft Windows NT.

As Bill said eariler, "We liked it so much we bought the author!"
More seriously, he applied, we hired him, and he works remotely - he's
not "at Qualcomm" meaning Qualcomm offices, but he's a Qualcomm
employee.

Hi,
Probably a lame duck I know, but I'm new to the game so I have no idea
what the standard of play is out there.

My office has recently discovered that little gem Minesweeper. (we
only discovered it recently 'cos we only started working here last month!)
Anyway, so far the best scores we've got are :-

Beginner 11 Intermediate 83 Expert 420

I'm only interested in genuine high scores obviously (i.e no xyzzy cheats, no
editing high score table, no disabling the internal clock etc., etc.). I know
prove, but I'm sure the integrity of the computer using community is fairly
good.

Sorry if I'm resurecting a long dead donkey.

Lame :->

A poll was taken on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games a while back about Minesweeper
scores. For Expert, I was 3rd, with a score of 110 (since improved to 104).
The best score I have seen, running on an exact clone of Minesweeper under
X-Windows, is 68 seconds.

Practice, Practice, Practice. I've been playing since before win3.1 came out
(started with the copy in WEP vol 1). The first time I won Expert, I took
over 350 seconds. I've improved considerably in the past year or so.

Yes, Expert. You need a score <90 seconds to even get on the top score list.
People here play for blood :)

I've managed the following:

Beginner 7 Intermediate 55 Expert 253

I've resorted to using an unorthodox method of playing this game....don't
waste time marking known mines. There's no need to use the right mouse
button at all!

Also, when you come upon a group of tiles that you must guess (completely
surrounded by known mines or cleared tiles) jump right in and guess based
on common patterns seen in the game.

It gets to be second nature, and you'll find yourself clearing squares
without even thinking. But try not to get hooked...you'll end up dreaming
1's, 2's. 3's, and 4's!
