The Nearly-Complete Guide To The TMNT Arcade Game

1: General Hints
A) Don't use all four turtles! -mucho game slow-down...
B) Take it nice and slow -no point letting hordes of baddies on the
screen at once...
C) Know your turtles...
Leo: best all-around reasonable at everything... (James plays)
Don: slow and sort of wimpy, but has monstrous special attack...
Mike: total chump, never use "Mikey"...
Raph: fast and tough, very useful in multi-player games... (eli plays)
D) Know which attacks to use...
Regular: get in close and waste 1, (and only 1!) badguy.
Special attack: (both buttons) use on large groups as they walk onto
the screen.
Raphael's special attack: use to keep guys on their butts, while
others mop up the pieces.
Quick jump attack: (tap jump, then attack) use on robots,
spear-dudes, gun-dudes, etc... (things that throw junk at you...)
"Pansy" jump attack: (screw-up quick jump...) use to get killed,
"Mikey's" favorite.
"Golden-axe": (hold down jump, then attack, sweeping away all before
you) use on bombers, gunners.

2: Walk-through (with cheats and honor pts.)
Start game, sing along with groovey music, when you get to stairs use
"golden-axe" attack to jump balls and get guys on other side as they
come on. continue through building 'til you reach door, kill robots
with quick jump attack. (after April screams jump off wall to get her to
scream again for turtle-honor pts.) Inside room have one player slowly
advance as others special attack guys coming in from left, then
"golden-axe" the gunners and wait for Rock-Steady to show up...
To kill Rock-Steady: get him against a wall, then do a tight continuous
loop where you, do a quick jump attack, pulling down as you hit him and
knocking him down, go down, loop out and jump attack him again 'til he
dies -with a little practice you shouldn't get hit at all.
As soon as Rock-Steady dies run up to transport, whine-'n-bitch about
how Shredder was right on your weapon and you couldn't waste him, see
nifty picture and get recharged. On the street use Raph's special
attack to keep boomerang-dudes down, jump kick the dudes off the edge of
the vertical section of street. (Honor for killing guys by hitting the
sewer lids back at them, big honor for hitting the girl and making her
scream.),(cheat here and get unlimited points by getting a boomerang
dude stuck on fire hydrant. Kill the boomerangs he throws at you until
you get bored.) This level is pretty dull 'til you get to Bee-Bop...
To kill Bee-Bop: easy method: walk up and down through him, hitting him
once each time and letting him swing and miss before you turn around and
walk back through him. Honor method: knock him against right-hand wall
have one player stand in top right corner, have others gradually lure
him up so that he is stuck on corner just below player. Have player who
is out in field gradually close in and attack him -do it right and both
players can sit in one place as the outside player repeatedly pounds him
into bacon 'n sausage. Great fun to watch him sit there and swing away
without hitting anything...
Now we're off to the sewers... (To cheat and get through the sewers...
Stand on the VERY (within about two pixels of falling off) edge of the
upper pathway and nothing can hit you but missiles (which won't come
unless someone falls off...)) (To get on the wall for turtle-honor (only
works with 2+ players) Have one player scroll the screen down (the
sucker), then you move up to the top and jump pushing the joystick up...
it takes some practice...) at the end of the sewers have everyone stand
in the top right corner and one person special attack the dude as the
others take care of the mousers. Not much original on the next screen,
if someone has died when you get to the end you can kill Rock-Steady
with the method above, else jump around alot and hope...Off to the next
street, you can get on the wall here as in the sewers, (for big honor
you can kill the motorcycle-guys, do the "golden-axe" attack into their
backs as you're coming down - remember BIG honor at stake here...) Now
comes the skateboard level, major-bitch-pain-in-the-arse... best advice
i can give is to stay at the very top of the screen and special attack
the 'copters. Pretty smooth sailing from then on, kill the big-guys
using the Rock-Steady easy method, kill the bug-bots in the factory with
special attacks from both sides right when they begin to spread,
Shredder in a pain, but only the one's with helmets still on can zap
you.

(All hints learned by mimicking the movements of my master, Yoshi...)
Good luck, and remember... Your death is meaningless if it is without honor...

Plus mucho difficulty increase, especially with Shredder(s).

I disagree. Donatello has the longest reach of all of them with that
staff, and is the best guy to use to kill Be-Bop without having anyone say
a word. (More on this later.)

I ***LOVE*** doing that! (Plus, with clever placement of your player, you
can make it look like she is massaging your crotch instead of backing up
against a desk.)

Don's special move is the best for this. "Up against the wall!" "Have a
seat!"

>As soon as Rock-Steady dies run up to transport, whine-'n-bitch about

Better, stand behind April and watch Shredder run right through you, while
she rubs.

Also you get points for doing this. (Super honor for bouncing a sewer lid
back by doing a flying kick!)

Hmm, I never tried it here. I always waited until I got just before BB
and RS together, with the exploded barrel.

Nah, use Donatello and get used to positioning so you can hit him six
times (sometimes 5, sometimes 7, same machine), knock him down, he gets
up, swing 6, down, up, swing 6, down, up, etc. (Note, falling into open
manhole loses 1 hit, unless that is all you have left!)

Have never tried it on the top edge. There is the ability to get on the
border of land and water, in water with careful jumping and placement of
shadow. Can kill everything but everything can't kill you.

>(To get on the wall for turtle-honor (only
>works with 2+ players) Have one player scroll the screen down (the

>it takes some practice...)

So THATS what had happened! I saw a game that was abandoned at the end of
the sewer, with no player visible, and mousers grouping against the
northern wall. Somehow (I don't know how, I wasn't looking) I got him
down and finished the game.

>at the end of the sewers have everyone stand
>in the top right corner and one person special attack the dude as the

With the border thing, you can just kill all the mousers for points, and
let the guy in the machine get away. Then make the mousers dance, train
them to jump, etc. Endless fun, unless you screw up and they bite you.

>Not much original on the next screen,
>if someone has died when you get to the end you can kill Rock-Steady

You can pin RS against the wall while you take out BB with the above
method, then do with RS as you will. BB is the EASIEST guy to kill in the
whole game -- second easiest is Shredder, then Krang. The rest are hard
to classify, and I don't really bother to figure in the small mechanoids.

Also, with Don (don't know about the others) before you jump away, watch
for Raphael's head at your feet. Also present briefly in other similar
scenes. Someone got sloppy in the icon storage.

Also, did you know that you can bounce tires back just like you could
manhole covers?

Best is Don's swing just as they come out. I (once) killed the whole
swarm in one hit like that.

Don't forget to curse at Splinter, since apparently he could have untied
himself and helped! Same with April in the elevator!

And what is it with yelling "Hang on!" and then everyone jumping out of
the van?!?

"Crash the turtles!"?

>Shredder in a pain, but only the one's with helmets still on can zap

Get one of them pinned against the wall. He has a certain move pattern,
and can't do it if you are too close. With one guy pinned against the
wall, swing and dodge the other, occasionally moving out of the way of the
other one with the magic. Remember, the real Shredder is the one who
starts out on the left, so kill off all the clones first anyway for 1
point each! :-)

>(All hints learned by mimicking the movements of my master, Yoshi...)
>Good luck, and remember... Your death is meaningless if it is without honor...

Practice keeping BB from talking, and delaying the end-level in
multi-player by continuously falling into the manhole. Also standing on
one-way signs and other tall things is a good way to pause the game for a
bite to eat (and seeing them trying to beat up on a defenseless sign).
Just don't swing, or else you'll go flying. Make use of parking meters,
fire hydrants and explosive barrels. Make fun of the enemies.

Suggest having some pizza during manual pauses.

Also, practice avoiding the Hurry Up bombs. (I saw a guy who was working
on a game do this unintentionally!) Very risky and stressful, but fun as
hell!

And make sure to read the closing credits, especially the stuff about
demenTion X! (Though not quite as funny as "You good rythm to shoot," or
"You are very dangerous. Be dead down here," or "You, persistent guy.
But your life ends right now.")

The machine is intelligent in that the closer you are to your opponent,
the more damage you do. If you are directly in line with Bee-Bop you do
more damage than when you are farther back (so it takes less hits to
knock him down).

This walkway/sewer edge is what Eli was refering to.

True, but the game doesn't like giving away all these free points. Of
you kill all the mousers and let Baxter escape, the game throws MANY
more spear/shurkin/sword dudes at you on the next level. Since distance
is preferred to score (IMHO), kill Baxter off quickly and avoid the
hassle.

I am impressed with the way the game will up its difficulty if the
turtles are doing too well (ie not dying). This is especially evident
in the Rock-Steady and Bee-Bop vs. Turtles scene.

Nothing special about Don. I've done it with Leonardo. Its all positioning.

And as a special treat to try at home...you can get it so that two
turtles can bounce the manhole covers back and forth between each other.
Very difficult to do, but most honorable.
