Re all this diet stuff.
I read an interesting article in my daily paper and subsequently found that
the BBC had extensively covered broccoli.
nb. Broccoli good, peas bad for lectins prevention.
"The leafy green vegetables contain fibre rich in the sugar galactose, which
scientists believe could help prevent proteins called lectins from binding
to the lining of the colon and causing damage".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_2028000/2028823.stm

"A chemical found in broccoli may provide the basis for a treatment for many
cases of stomach ulcers and cancer. Laboratory tests found that the
chemical, sulforaphane can kill off the bacterium Helicobacter pylori"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_2010000/2010386.stm

"Eating broccoli can help to keep bones healthy and could be vital in
helping astronauts to survive in space, say scientists. Research carried out
in France has found that a deficiency of vitamin K can lead to bone loss.
They have suggested that eating broccoli, which is abundant in vitamin K,
can help to maintain bone strength".

He might have, but it was the Sr. George Bush who was very vocal about
hating it.

Hi,

There are about a 100 hits on pubmed for psoriasis and lectin.
A few abstracts had some ideas to follow up on. I will.

For lectin i found this from Don Wiss that glutten guy.
That shows up now and then in our p ng.

Do dietary lectins cause disease?
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/318/7190/1023

At least 16% of p's have definite issues with wheat. I
suspect that more p's have subclinical effects that may not
show up till later years. Look how well Pee Wee has done
with her efforts. She is in shorts to. I'm guessing.

Sulforaphane is a precursor to NAC for GP enzymes which we are usually
short of. I think its a good thing for psoriatics. Broccoli and
any old cruciferous veggies or any crudites. Choose your dips
wisely and avoid veggie oil based ones. Use a monosaturated fat
(olive oil)for the base or sour cream if you tolerate dairy well.

Good healthy snacking can help avoid some of the p pitfalls
of chips and fat laden (acrylamides?)pastries and bakery items.
All known free radical inducers, not to mention the extra refined
sugars that stress the adrenal glands. And more cortisol we
P's just don't need. Oh the stress of stress hormones. I'm
stressing out just thinking about them.

When i do want my sugar treats i wait till hours after my supper.
And just maybe, by then, i won't eat as much.

I wish.

There was a story a year or so back that broccoli sprouts
are loaded with that active ingredient, sulforaphane.
Really loaded.

I've been waiting for them to show up in the stores?
Maybe their making more dough selling them in pills?

Excuse me but this is the psoriasis newgroup. You should be posting to:
alt.broccoli.advocacy ;-)

But seriously a couple of years ago I started eating a small head of raw
broccoli as my mid morning snack. Six months later I found I had lost 20
lbs. I can't say it's helped my P, but it has certainly helped to keep
things moving.

Just didn't want you all to go down with ulcers or cancer as well!
My personal belief is that fresh green leafy vegetables are extremely good
for psoriasis, so there! :>))

Bush hated broccoli? Thank you. I searched and even found an audio clip of
:-
"I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more
broccoli!"

Have spent my whole life with the leafy stuff and not noticed a great
difference. But then, at the moment, my P isn't as raised as it
normally is. in fact, the surface of my skin is quite smooth so I look
like a leopard.

Some say it's cute... Yuk!

At least the green stuff will help to ward off colon cancer.
