I have IE4 and cannot find where in the properties I specify the default
search engine web address that I would like. The current address points to
an address that is no longer valid so every time I click the Search button
nothing happens other than a navigation failure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Grant

Have a look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
You will find all default web pages.

Tell me if it works

Ahmet, sorry but I could not understand this advice. I don't have any
directory structure like the one that you provided. Any other ideas would be
appreciated.

Thanks, Grant

Hi grant .. i suggest you install TweakUI from your win98 CD in the
Tools\reskit\powrtoy folder. right click on the tweakui.inf file and choose
install.

You can then go to control panel and d/click TweakUI and use this program to
change the default search engine.

The other method is changing the settings in the registry. *Please Back Up
Your Registry Before Attempting This*.

Click Start | Run and type in Regedit. Navigate to the following Key.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

"Search Page"="http://home.microsoft.com/access/allinone.asp"
"Search Bar"="http://home.microsoft.com/search/search.asp"

Change the address above to the search engine of youe choice and exit
regedit.. !! Remember To Backup registry First !! (user.dat & system.dat.

Good Luck,

It's a registry edit. If you haven't edited the registry before you might want to read about it in a book like "Windows98 Secrets" or even "Running Windows98" from Microsoft Press.
From Start | Run type in "regedit" (without the quotes). You can then navigate to the key aozhan gave and edit the Search Page value. The default is:
http://home.microsoft.com/access/allinone.asp
