Hello,

I have the following problem:

I have a standalone PC with Win95 which can be connected to the
Internet using Dial-UP Connection and TCP/IP.

Problem: When I am not connected to the network, the TCP/IP protocol stack
is not present. This is discovered by some applications which of course
doesn't
work. Applications which are connecting to local servers (e.g. a local Web
server,
my own development, etc.) are reporting errors, the hostname is not known
etc.

When connecting to the Internet, suddenly everything is working fine.

Is there a way to permanently load the TCP/IP protocol stack without
being connected to the Internet?

Any hints, even reports about successful configurations is welcome. Please
indicate wether you have WinSock2 installed DUN1.2 or DUN1.3 etc.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards
Ernoe

MS provides a loopback adapter with NT for just this situation.
Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, there is no loopback adapter
for 95.

The quickest, simplest solution is probably to install a cheap NIC in the
machine. Just configure it with a static IP from one of the blocks reserved
for private networks (e.g. 192.168.1.1, mask-255.255.255.0) and leave all
other settings as they are now.
