For those that have a hard time finding those hard to find CDs, you
might want to try this dial-up service based in California. I called
and looked through their database, and they seemed to have everything
I was looking for, at very reasonable prices. I didn't order anything,
yet, but when I do, I'll let folks know how the service was.

Anyhow, the number is 1-408-730-9015, and they accept 300-9600 baud.
Looks like a good resource for the "I don't need anymore, but what
the hell" audio folk.

Yes...very impressive jazz and blues selections. It seems they have
access to most every label, and claim to have 90% or so in stock.

While I agree that Music by Modem's prices are decent I cannot say
that I was "very impressed" by their selection. Aside from Enja, ECM
and a couple of other labels that have major US distribution (Rhino
and PolyGram in the above examples) they had *no* imports!!! That
means no Black Saint, Soul Note, Hat ART, etc. etc. They don't beat
Cadence's selection and prices in that arena. I would still recommend
browsing their catalog. I've got a downloaded copy of their jazz
catalog which I'm willing to put on some common ftp site for r.m.b. I
don't think the ordering svc will have a problem with this if it gets
them customers although I have not checked w/ them.

P.S. Please do not deluge me w/ requests to mail that file. It is
more than 700 Kb long and will choke most or all mailers and I
don't have the time to split and mail it to everyone.

I'm working on trying to get together an ftp site to file catalogs of
teh two CD BBS's and a dump of all available titles into a HUGE database
that might end up with an ability to query it by artist via telnet or
a mailserver. The "other" online CD store is the Compact Disc Connection,
at 408-730-9092, which claims to have 44,000 releases in their database.
Hmmm, I can't see the original post with the # now, but Music By Modem is
is a different area code than CDC and I think the original post may have
referenced the CDC phone #.

I don't have any affiliation with either company, I just want to try to
make a large database of available releases of any genres available to
the networld as a reference resource...
