WHAT THE HECK ARE RADICAL ELVES?
The RADICAL ELVES mailing list is an online "think tank" for
politically left, radical (and even anarchical) sexual
minorities. I encourage creative works as an expression of civil
dissent and liberty. Here, you need not be afraid of any clown
harassing you for expressing "far out" thoughts, especially as
regards spiritual concepts and shamanic belief systems.
Atheists are also quite welcome; as are those practicing
"conventional" religious ideas (such as Christianity or
Buddhism). As long as they respect those of us who are proudly
NOT "normal", and believe in a spiritual dimension (including
concepts such as the soul, the afterlife, and immortality).
I believe we can ALL put our heads (and hearts) together, to come
up with viable, artful strategies to more effectively win our
rights as equal to those who comprise the heterosexual majority.
So if some ideas don't appeal to atheists and mainstream
reiligous types, we'll have other ideas that do (and vice versa,
and so on).
This list also serves as a support network for those participants
who have a history of "mental disability"...which may really be a
potent psychic gift not acknowledged by our present medical
system. Likewise: eccentric, offbeat, artistic types are invited
to join. This definitely includes geeks, hackers, and other
mathematically and/or scientifically inclined wizards.
If you are cast out of the "queer mainstream" for any other
reason of "non-normalcy"--such as being physically disabled, a
person of color, a war veteran, or poor or even homeless--you are
also most eagerly welcome. I know how socially isolating it can
be, when one fits any of these "abnormal" labels, let alone two
or more! (I'm queer, low-income, mentally disabled, and a
hard-core liberal.) I mean, isn't that what is implied by the
word "queer" (when spoken by a bigot)?
This list also serves to host my "Zeke's newsletter", and anyone
else who cares to feature their own ideas and talents, either in newsletter format or other. You are welcome to just
'schmooze"
and joke around, as a way of releasing stress and sharing
camaraderie with other list members.
And this should go without saying, but:
Just as no one is permitted to use racial, anti-gay, etc. slurs
on this list, NO ONE will be allowed to use slurs that insult
another based on cruel prejudices against those labelled
"mentally disabled". Doing so even just once will ban you for
good.
I hope you find the concept of this list intriguing, and would
like to join. If you have been consistently rejected by other
so-called "progressive" groups, you may have finally found a
home, here. I hope so!
