This time, an administrator of a queernet mailing list wants me to remove the URL in my messages, which points to my website. On the grounds that I
am anti-bisexual. I just want to put this incident on public record, for future reference. The actual list and manager involved are not revealed here.
First, the manager's message, then my reply:

Hey Zeke,

Hope all's well.

You have posted a number of things to the list, which is, of course,
moderated in an effort to keep things on-topic and on-track. I've been
swamped with work the past few days, so I just found all the posts waiting
for approval. (Thank you!) I also found a number of emailed complaints to a
post of yours that made the list last week.

Let me explain: Your posts are fine. I certainly think so, and you know I
respect you as a cyberfriend and thinker. And those complaining say they
have no quarrel with (and in fact, appreciated) your posting. The problem
is the URL to your site that is attached as a sig file on all your
postings. The list guidelines state that no material that could be
construed as being anti-GLBT, including affixed URLs, can be posted--unless
they are sent for the purpose of oppositional research. It turns out many
of the listmembers went to visit the Gay Bible site and found anti-B
material. Some bisexual list members say that, given the list guidelines,
it is inappropriate to have URLs posted that are anti- our own list
members. I agree with that. (I'm technically bi, too, and I don't find your
site threatening in any way, but I can understand why others would.)

So here is what I propose:

I can approve your posts IF the URL is removed. Or, if that is unacceptable
to you, I can reject them (regretfully). It will have to be one or the
other because the guidelines must be followed. As this is a moderated list
designed for GLB&T progressive activists, I can't expect them to put up
with me not following my own guidelines, especially because I know those
guidelines are in place for a very good reason--the list is meant for
alerts and news for the entire community, not just the G and L contingent.

Please let me know what you think and how you wish to proceed. Write or
feel free to phone me at (xxx) xxx-xxxx. I do want to hear what you have to
say on the matter.

peace,

list manager

My URL to my activist website?

I assume you have read the material in question. I am no more anti-bi than I am anti-hetero. I am DEFINITELY anti-heterocentric...and it is only fair
that I describe the dark side, as well as the bright side. of those sexual minorities I am familiar with.

Knowing the responsible person you are, I am sure you have read the material yourself, before posting to me.

I think it's kinda OUTRAGEOUS that my URL should be censored on a pro-gay list. You are allowing others' erroneous opinions to usurp my very
considerate and intelligent voice.

By all means, I am out of your hair. I won't ever upset your cozy list again.

This is the third queenet list I've been rejected or censored. Another was a left-wing list...imagine that! And yet another is supposed to be "radical",
but the severe censoring of what few messages of mine that do get through...are as a result, totally gelded. All I can say is: I'm glad that Gaynet is not
afraid of its own shadow (or those of its regular participants).
