Just to give you guys a sample of my present
street activism. Here is a letter I typed for my
street buddy, Johnny, to present to an SFPD
officer, who (strangely) does have badge number
"666":

---begin letter:

March 5, 2003

To Officer 666 of the SFPD, et al:

Now that I've had the honor to meet "Officer 666",
it's time for the SFPD to be formally introduced
to "The Sheriff Of Castro Street", who is yours
truly, Zeke Krahlin.

Johnny S. is my very best friend. I am safe on the
streets when he's around; and my present hangout
is at The Transfer. He is helping identify and
flush out dangerous street denizens...by watching
over me and other gay men and women, and defending
when called for. He can also advise police in this
matter, especially if this would make the cops'
work easier and less dangerous. Not asking any
favors of course...but if possible, could you help
Johnny recover his wallet and ID cards that got
lost in the shuffle of a recent arrest? Much
thanks; no problem however, if that is out of your
jurisdiction or judgment. (You know best how to
perform your calling, and I, mine.)

I trust your professionalism as an officer on how
best to regard Johnny. Just introducing you to my
network of gay-supportive guardians. 'Cause I am
now ready to integrate my little clique with our
immediate community and our courageous SFPD
guardians. You may consider me a vital contact for
Johnny, should you ever need my assistance in
resolving an issue around him (see my phone number
and address above). I have additional street
friends that will be glad to coordinate a more
effective safety network throughout The Castro.
They have been educated about homophobia and gay
perspectives in general, that they may provide an
auxiliary volunteer force of neighborhood
watchdogs. This, not necessarily by their
volition, but by their uninvited presence in our
community, and my desire to coordinate an
inexpensive, practical solution towards reclaiming
our streets for our own queer selves. As you know,
a neighborhood safe for LGBTQs is also safe for
women, children, the elderly and disabled.

You may learn more about my activism on my website
[ www.gay-bible.org ], which serves as a portfolio
of my accomplishments as a free lance, unofficial
quasi-underground street counselor and queer
liberationist of many years. Also, these two
character references have known about me since
1973 and 1985, respectively: The owner Andy of
Orphan Andy's, and Father Young of the Church of
the Holy Redeemer. They may not remember me by my
present name (which I legally changed in 1996),
but by my former name, Gene Catalano.(Proof of my
name-change is available on my website.) My best
friend Marvin Johnson--who died in 1993--was
instrumental in bringing me to these two excellent
GayFolk.

You also know where I live, and should also know
our building is cop-friendly, and welcomes any man
or woman in blue, who is assigned to our
neighborhood...or in some other way, can add to
the security of our sexual minorities living in
and visiting Eureka Valley. Feel free to share
this letter with other officers assigned to the
district, and to any interested parties that you
deem acceptable. Part of my strategy is to be an
open book with no secrets, and to place my
complete trust in those whom I befriend and
network, no matter what their vocation or social
circles.

In closing: hope you like my enclosed poem
"Officer 666"; it's truly inspired (and appears on
my website's home page...which also includes a
letter praising the police in the Castro for their
fine work...which I e-mailed to various gay
newspapers with no luck yet. It also includes a
blueprint I devised on effective ways to help the
SFPD make our neighborhood safe and fun once
again, entitled "Never Forget Bloody Mary
Halloween". Just scroll down a bit, to find both
poem and letter.) You should know by now, that
humor is one of my tools for effecting social
change...as it apparantly is yours likewise,
considering your conscious choice of badge number.
(How well that actually serves to facilitate
positive community relations, is something I'd be
most curious to understand, if ever privy to such
knowledge.)

Sincerely,

Ezekiel J. Krahlin, NARQ
(North American Righteous Queer)

OFFICER 666

by Ezekiel J. Krahlin

If you have a problem that can't be fixed,
Just call on Officer 666.

He'll mend your heart lickety-split,
And leave you some money and give you no lip.
Hey, that's my kinda cop: 666.

If you're stuck outside (keys locked in the car)
Just call for him, he's never too far:
"666? Oh, there you are!"

He'll carry you home, safe in his arms,
And tuck you in, and rock you to sleep,
And steal your heart while you count sheep.

He's not very pretty when it comes to the face,
Or just about any other body-place.
But he'll please you "on-your-knees-you",
Just by his commanding voice

and 12.75 yards of lace.
