To those who use Yahoo's services, and expect everyone else to do so too, just to share some information:

Recently, a poster asked folks to go to a URL owned by Yahoo...and I posted back that I couldn't access that page. Several "helpful" private replies came back to me, saying I probably need to register or sign in, in order to view the contents. Here is my response, which really more Yahoo-people need to hear, I believe:

Wait a minute. That is not what the Yahoo page said; it did not say I first need to sign in. I AM registered to Yahoo...though I don't care to access anything Yahoo since they've become such an aggressive monopoly.

The messager SHOULD have warned all list members that they'll need to either sign in, or register, with Yahoo, in order to view the URL in question. To ASSUME everyone belongs to Yahoo already; and to likewise ASSUME that we all keep our Internet cookies turned "on" (thereby making one vulnerable to privacy invasion and viruses)...is a false premise.

Many pages via Yahoo are accessible withOUT signing in (or registering)...and I naturally assumed that was the case here (since the author did not make any comment about going through any Yahoo hoops...or, as I like to call it: "Yahoops".

May I suggest to EVERYONE, boycotting Yahoo--along with AOL and Micro$oft, for the same reasons--and finding a non-monopoly service on which to invite visitors. I consider reference to URLs requiring registration just to VIEW anything, an imposition on all readers...especially without any forewarning. Certainly, netiquette agrees with me in this matter.

The poster of this URL can NOT expect folks to comply to the orders of Yahoo; nor should you be Yahoo's extension to manipulate netizens to do their bidding. I RESENT the nature of such services, and those who take for granted that everyone will go along with the program, like mindless sheep. Some of us really are non-conformists.

When you (or whomever) can set up a non-Yahoo URL, let me be the first to know, and I'll gladly visit the material in question.

P.S.: Yahoo's sexual innuendos in their "Do you Yahoo" ads, I find highly offensive. Using sex to sell anything from lightbulbs to cars, perpetrates the objectification and degradation of the female, of queers, and of sexuality in general. For that reason (among others), I DON'T YAHOO, and am proud of it!
