Hi there! Ok, this is yet another stupid question from yours truly, but I
haven't been flamed out of the newsgroup yet, so I'll keep plodding along.
Item 1) I have seen a few gundam tapes, namely Char's Counterattack,
Gundam 0080 and 0083: Stardust memory, and i was wondering if anyone can
give me a chronological listing of the order these shows take place...
(and if possible, when they were released.)
Item 2) General gab: Just saw the first U.S. Renditions Tape of Macross
II.... I'm rather impressed... I look forward to seeing the rest of this
series. Does it have anything to do with macross plus or this Macross 7
I've been reading about????
Item 3) Another EXTREMELY weird tape I just watched was the first part of
the Doomed Megalopolis series... is it just me or is this one of the
trippiest anime around? Any other opinions welcomed... feel free to reply
both on here and in e-mail to me. Thanx!

Gundam 0080, then 0083, then CCA in UC0091.

I believe Macross II is based on the Macross: DYRL Movie timeline, while
Macross Plus and Macorss is based on the original Japanese TV series
timeline...

Well, it looks like three is the charm for expanding the Macross
universe...first its was good ol' Macek trying to do it with Robotech
(which was really not bad...until it got to the Sentinels series, which
really ruined everything...what's so bad about it is that there's still
comic books on the market today based on the Sentinels, trying to play off
a bad storyline...)...second is when Macross II is released, and was
very dissapointing to almost everyone (basically a reiteration of the
1st Macorss series), not a good way to celebrate the 10th anniversary
of the series...since the Robotech storyline was jacked, then the DYRL
timeline was also jacked, I guess the only way to go is to continue
the original Japanese Macross TV series with Macross Plus and Macross,
7, and with the response I've read here on the net about these two
new series, it looks like it will do pretty well...

I Actually liked DM. I would argue with anyone that it is one of the better

In the beginning, there was light... and on the 8th day, God created
Gundam. ^_^

Yes, it does, as in Macross Plus will blow you away if Macross II
impressed you.

Official timeline Alternate timeline
-----------------
Macross TV series Macross the movie
(based on events in the TV series)
Macross Plus Macross II (follows movie timeline,
fiction)
Macross 7

It's this way. We people in real life see Macross the tv series and
go, wow, a fiction anime. People in the Macross universe look at the
movie and go, wow, a movie based on our experiences. Then, they look
at Macross II and say, wow, a second installment to the movie.
Get it? ^_^

Thus, Macross Plus and Macross 7 are of the official timeline of events.

Yeup. It's weird. Stick with SF and watch more Gundam and Macross.

Of course, the Macross '84 timeline is all in your head now :-) or
rather the head of some enterprising movie producer *within* the
Macross universe.

Which makes Macross II a figment of your imagination :-)

No, DYRL was a dramatized (traumatized?) version of the story made into a
movie in 2032? You'd think that a mere 20 years after it all happened, the
50,000 people on the ship after the Final Battle would know that the Meltran
didn't exist and the Rain of Death (American name from the last RT novel...
I know the purge of Earth doesn't have a name in the Japanese original,
but I liked the way it sounded) happened a lot more than a few months after
Macross left Earth. Pretty silly, actually...the parallel universe thing
works much better.

attract an audience who may not be as inclined to attend a show that
simply retells what they just experienced.

Actually, we had this discussion, too, but then we realized that

They've made war movies for years and years. What makes you
think that things are going to be different in the future?

Actually, if I were to guess, I'd say it triggered a Minmay nostalgia wave,
Admiral Jenius just chuckles when the film is mentioned, and Admiral Hunter
would rather not talk about "that damn movie".

I never said they wouldn't watch it because it was a war movie. I'm
saying they never watched it because it aired on Earth and they *left*

Actually, the New Macross 07 Fleet launched in 2038, so the Jenius family
may have seen the movie. In fact, Basara Nekki was influenced by seeing
this movie as a kid. A rather crucial point in Mac 7. =P

Unless something got radically changed, Misa is the captain of Megaroad-01

Let me clarify that.

I doubt we'll see them *interact* in any meaningful way w the
Jiinas's. Of course, they prob won't be ignored. After all, the two
couples are more or less best friends. They make even make
a "cameo" in a communications transmission of some sorts, but that's
about all I'm expecting for now.

*Minor* spoilers on Macross 7 follow:

Where is the original Macross TV cast now? [TV] [7]
Presuming that "now" means in the currently used continuity (A):
Admiral Bruno J. Global was appointed to be a United Government
representative in 2014. Britai was appointed to command the UN Spacy in
2016. Captain Misa Hayase, Mecha Wing Commander Hikaru Ichijyo[u] and
Lynn Minmay were onboard the Megaroad-01 near the center of the Milky Way
Galaxy when communications ceased with Earth in 2016. Captain Maxmillian
Jenius, Second-in-Command (and City 7 mayor) Miria Fariina Jenius, and
fleet observer Exedore are now in the New Macross 07 Fleet as it
approaches Planet Varauta near the center of the galaxy. The Jenius
family's first daughter Komiria Maria is apparently not aboard this fleet

A certain plot twist precludes any communiques between the two ships,
unless something drastically happens in the Macross 7 series.

I wonder, though .... *If* they bring back Hikaru for a cameo, will they
hire the original voice, or the movie voice actor? My, these Macross

Sort of. All contact with the Megalord was lost in 2016. I suppose

Huh??

I don't have the opportunity to watch the new Macross Plus OAVs and Macross 7
TV series but are you saying that there are *two* Macross ships now??? A
Megaroad-01 and a Macross 07?

I did watch Flash Back 2012(?) a long time ago and did catch Misa and Hikaru
in the ending scenes but it was never really explained what happened after the
Macross Saga (although one can guess that they reconstructed a new "Macross"
ship). Why do they have to go back into space? I thought the war was over!

They only managed to stop the attack of that one specific Zentradi
fleet, not the entire Zentradi race, which has other megafortresses
scattered all over the galaxy.
